I've used a Hydor Mini Aquarium Heater in small tanks. It works pretty well, but it's not adjustable, which can be a drag. (http://www.petco.com/product/14614/Hydor-Mini-Aquarium-Heater.aspx)

I keep our betta's tank at about that temperature, sometimes it ends up even a bit higher. He seems happy with the set up... at least as "happy" as a fish can be :D

Do you keep the tank heated at all? As you know bettas can survive without heat, but I've always felt mine were more "happy" with some heat. Aside from not eating, does the betta seem healthy? I've also heard that bettas are prone to --ahem-- constipation, which could cause them not to eat...

I just wanted to bump this message one last time and see if anyone else has any comments. Thanks in advance for any help!

Thanks for the advice. Any thoughts on how big a tank I might need to keep the fish I described? I might be able to swing a 120 gallon tank if that would do it.
