    African Clawed Frogs

We have five ACF's in a 40 gallon tank. They have just decided that it's breeding time. We have TONS of eggs and are starting to get tadpoles. I'm wondering what to attempt feeding them. How to save them from their parents (we tried to get as many eggs as possible into a breeding net). There...

    Adding Plant To Filter.

It is not an aquatic plant and therefore it would... rot.

    Adding Plant To Filter.

I'm going to be keeping a close eye on the roots to ensure they don't become entangled with something or creep over to the side with the pump. I'm going to attempt to keep it right behind the carbon. If anyone wants some of this plant and is around the Michigan area I'm sure I could spare some...

    Adding Plant To Filter.

Here are the pictures of the plant. All of the new growth is from since I've placed it in the filter. It doesn't really get much light and it seems to be doing very well.

    Adding Plant To Filter.

So, my boyfriends mom is taking down her pond for the winter and she was getting rid of a lot of extra plants. It's not a fully aquatic plant but she said it was good for filtration. I've added it to my filter behind the sponge and carbon. Fits nicely as long as I can keep it the right size...

    Siamese Fighting Fish

I have a Kuhli Loach with mine. You could also do snails or a dwarf frog. It's going to depend on if it's a male or female though. You have get away with more if it's a female.

    Honey Gouramis

Do you have plenty of plants, decor etc? Mine like it when I have lots of cover for them. Have you recently lost a lot of fish? Has he lost a "buddy"? Have you redone the tank, moved things around?

    Moving

I've always been on it. I'm thinking if you slowly change them over to well from city they should be just fine.

    Betta Cohabitants

If it hasn't grown any in a month then you should be fine. Clawed frogs will grow quite fast if they are well feed.

How To Keep Your Fish Alive If You Have A Fully Stocked Uncycled Tank

Very right the only issue I see is the death rate upon return. In some areas (such as mine) fish have a higher death rate in the stores then going through a cycle. So, I wouldn't say always return. Plus, some places won't take back fish. I have a hard time selling back fish or plants and there...

    Moving

I have well water and do just fine. Just try to keep as much as you can of the current water you have in the tank and do a very very slow change over from city to well.

Sparkling Gouramis And Bumble Bee Gobys

It's most likely the Gourami's going after each other. I've heard Sparkling Gourami's are quite fiesty. The gobys shouldn't be the ones doing it. From what I have observed with mine and understand they are peaceful and mine always hang to themselves. The tail should grow back. I'd add some...

    Ich

I've had absolutely no problem with them and I'm not going to stop using them when they have cured Ich many times with little loss of fish compared to products that use malachite.

    Ich

The two I've had success with are Ick Guard by Jungle and Ich Attack by Kordon. You can get them both online if you can't find them at your LFS. This site has both for sale. Meds (Ich attack is on the very last page where as the Ick Guard is on the first page). Just depends on how much you want...

    Nitrates Vs. Ph?

I've been told that if you use dechlorinator that you should have a specific kind of test kit for Ammonia or you won't get accurate readings. Hopefully someone else can confirm this. I use a kit called Aquatru by Kordon it's a Salicylate Method. Maybe you can find that online.

    Betta Cohabitants

Do you know what kind of frog it is for sure? Either way it will be fine with little water flow but if it's a clawed frog then I'd get rid of it as soon as you can because it will get big and eat the betta.

    Overstocked?

It's been up for two years. Yes, I read the Nitrite and Nitrate wrong. Switch them around. I haven't cleaned my filter for a while, though I did just replace the biobag.

What To Do With Filter Media

Okay so what about older filters (still a Whisper I believe) that only uses a biobag. No sponge. I'm using it for a small 5 gallon. Should I just upgrade to a better filter?

    Overstocked?

My last water change was last Sunday. I do them weekly. So, since I have to do one tomorrow (don't have time today) this is what it's reading today. Nitrite is at 20 ppm Nitrate is at .5 ppm GH is 300 and always has been KH is 300ppm pH is 8.4 ppm and always has been and I'm going to say...

What To Do With Filter Media

Sorry I guess I should have given more... I have a Whisper Power Filter. Where if you remove the filter you're basically taking everything out except a sponge that sits in front of the filter. This isn't a pressing issue at the moment, just want info for later.

    Overstocked?

I've attempted to figure that out. I honestly can't tell. I don't have a way of measuring it so I couldn't tell you what they actually are. It's a standard 15 gallon tank. What to explain why they might not be a good idea?

    Ich

I wouldn't use anything with malachite green in it. I have a planted tank and it just scares me that it will kill the plants and my smaller fish. I'll just tell you what I use and you can go from there. Ich Attack by Kordon. Safe for all fish and plants.

    Overstocked?

Yes, there should be enough room for them. The top of the tank it rather empty. No tall plants or floaters. The gourami's are actually very shy. They stay in the back corner most of the time. As far as my current algea issue how would you suggest taking care of it? I don't really want to use a...

    Plants

What kind of fish do you have? If it's goldfish or Koi. It won't matter what you try. I can't think of anything that would stop a fish from eating plants but... most tropical fish won't eat them.... or at least none that I've had.

    Green Belly Syndrome

He didn't bloat and yes he was still fertilizing my plants. The only thing I noticed was that he had started to hide and stay in one place all day. It wasn't the hiding that I found odd but the staying in one place. I've still been looking for something in my spare time and haven't found...

    Killing Snails With Heat?

To my knowledge heat won't kill them. Though I could be wrong... plus I'm not sure but I don't think the plants would like it. You can try lettuce or cucumber sink it to the bottom at night before bed and in the morning they might be all over it and you can pull it out. If those don't work...

    Recommendations For Glass Cleaning.

As far as washing it out when it's completely empty I use a normal clean dish cloth. If you're looking for something to clean it with (also while empty) I use various Jungle products depending on what I'm trying to get off. I can't seem to find them at the moment but I believe one is called...

    Snail?

Cucumber and Lettuce didn't work for me when I tried removing them. I have found another way however. If you plan to remove them or they get out of hand and you want to get some out, just hit your LFS and grab a pack of the weekend feeder things. Just throw one of those in at night before you...

Has Anyone Used A Heat Mat To Heat A Small Aquarium?

Are you talking about heat mats for reptiles or some other type? If it's heat mats used for reptiles I wouldn't suggest it because of the weight of the tank. You would have to elevate it with little things on each corner and I don't suggest that with water. Plus it's not a controlled heat. Not...
