I may get flamed for reccomending this - but dont cycle - use some well cycled used filter media instead :) Most good suppliers will let you have some. As a safety measure - you can add ammonia to test if the level drops ok (which is what i did), but if you know its ok, then it should be fine -...

lol unfortunately not, i bought a slate cave for my plec (as its far too big for the one it trys to hide its head in atm) But he refuses to use it, instead my loaches favour it. I tryed everything i could think of, inc putting the food in there.

I think there should be stricter rules on lfs, it really boils by blood with places such as petsathome etc, im sure the rspca wouldn't allow them to sell any other pet without the buyer knowing how to care for them correctly, infact when i bought my cats, we had home visits! Theres far too much...

I really need to start adding a few more bits to mine, having nothing but problems with the old filtration that came with the tank, first snails eggs came with my donated media, then algae hit hard - however now its all stabilised - i'm just about ready, going to see how it goes for 1 more month...

Hello - ive recently bought a used filter - id never heard of the make, which is Aqua-Pro? But the pics sold it - its identical to the Ehiem pro II, only without the expense & atm my tanks never been so clean! Anywhoo i cant source the media for this make, and my local supplier aren't selling...

Hahaha Is yours an acrylic juwel? If so some 2800grit w/d and a rotary polisher with some compound will sort your scratch :)

No ive no shrimp My stock to date is 1x BN Plec 2x Leapord Danios 1x Danios (unkown breed on this one) 6x White Cloud Mountain Minnows 3x Zebra Loaches Whatever the skins off, it definately has stripes, and a fin :S

Hello all, sorry not been on for a while far too much on with work :( Anywhoo as some of you may know i put 3 zebra loaches in to rid my snails, a week later 1 completely dissapeared - presumed dead. Just went to feed them and i thought i saw its carcass under my bogwood - but then i saw a live...

Cheers - yeah i test aleast once every week (if not more, usually every second day) i never knew it mini cycled when adding new fish :blush: that explains my slight peak i had a week back :good:

If its only on the ornament, id leave it. algae on ornaments gives a great matured look imo & my loaches love it :)

Have you got a pic? As said commons grow very large, however my Bristle nose was marked up as common plec where i bought it from :rolleyes: alot of places ive found describe them incorrectly - did they not give a maximum grow length on the tank description where you bought it?

Yeah i would definately say it was the wood - no need to remove it (allthough i was mis-informed that it was rotten, so was going to remove it - until my local breeder told me this was normal), if youve not got any fish that will eat it, simply scrub it off every week when you do the water...
