Basically we bought a new tank last Saturday, complete with fish. Before I put them on here (as I didn't think anyone would want them-how wrong was I?!) I thought I'd pop to the LFS in my lunch hour and ask if they would by them/let me have store credit for them.

It wasn't the usual chap I speak to (who is very very helpful, although I think that may be because of other reasons  . I asked this other chap anyway, and he basically said that they wouldn't give me store credit because they would make a loss from these fish killing their other fish! BTW, the fish are 2 large Balas, 1 large Angel, 2 Pearl Gouramis and several types of tetra.

I was completely gobsmacked as he then went on to say that if I gave the fish to them for nothing it would be ok. Excuse me but if they were gonna eat the fish when they paid for them they would still eat the bloody things if they were free! And they arent even agressive fish!

Luckily I have now found good homes for all the fish bar the gouramis but they can stay with me until I find them a good home, but what utter crap, I am not going to give a shop several fish for free that they will then sell on for a lot of money and probably make about £60!

Sorry, Rant over.

P.S went there today to get some fish bags, spoke to normal chap (not about fish incident) and he gave me a handful of fish bags, and several poly boxes, when I went to pay he said not to worry. Just odd how two staff can be sooooo different!

My local store have a pictus catfish for sale and on the label it says 'friendly, keeps himself to himself, eats flake, bloodworm' good community fish' (YEA RIGHT). Tried to tell them that the infomation was wrong, and they had the cheek to tell me my infomation was wrong!! I said they eat tetras, to which he replied 'I keep three fully grown pictus of these in my tank with neons and they are all fine'!!!!

When we first got into fish keeping we made the mistake of buying a pictus and it was about 2 inches and it ate all of our neons!!! We soon gave it back. but that was our fault for not researching first, these poor people are going to buy this fish and think its prefectly safe for the other fish.

Theres my rant about my lfs. sorry its on your post though.

lol go on then - name and shame :p
I used to have problems like this with pets at home (or whatever they may have changed names too nowadays) - i only use a deticated aquarium retailer now, who are the mutts imo
