Hello - ive recently bought a used filter - id never heard of the make, which is Aqua-Pro? But the pics sold it - its identical to the Ehiem pro II, only without the expense & atm my tanks never been so clean!

Anywhoo i cant source the media for this make, and my local supplier aren't selling eheim products anymore, as they never sold - so i cant even use eheim media, can you just buy it in bags? (the carbon and ceramic hoola hoops lol)
And also how often do you have to replace this?

Thanks for any advice :)

get some sponge and cut it to size.....put it in one of the trays.....then you can by hexaganol ceramic things that hold bacteria and fill he other trays... :good: any brand will do :good:

Just use sponge, I've never been convinced by the ceramic media. Why the need for these expensive things when a sponge will do just as good a job, and it doesn't need replacing as often. Save yourself some money :)

I did think to myself - why is there only 1 layer of sponge, as im not totally conviced how the ceramic loops filter as well as a sponge - but this being my first external i thought i'd ask some advice.
Thanks for the advice guys :good: I'll get some blue corse sponge of fleabay :)

the ceramic ones hold colinies of bacteria.........and keep hold of large particles.....so they are very good.....i also go with sponge iam in total agreement but ceramics are great and you only have to wash em out dont replace them.....and this stops sponges clogging up so quickly

as well as recommendations by above posters, you could also add some filter floss (sold in bags, looks like white fairy floss but coarser) to put a final polish on your water clarity.

ive got one of those, i use the sponge for the top 1, some things that look like chocolate balls in the second one and those ceramic rings in the third one
