    Which Lighting?

I'm currently planning my nano(ish) reef and am wondering if anybody has advice regarding which lighting to go for. The two tanks I am deciding between are a 1. Juwel rekord 96 (32" x 12" x 16") 2. Standard 36 x 15 x 15 tank. Unfortunately, metal halide's for this size tank are out of...

    New Nano Reef Keeper....?

Hi To be honest I hadn't, but I just had a quick look and even the smallest size is a bit too big at 65gal (it's going to be upstairs) - but they are really lovely systems. I just got a quote from Nd aquatics that; 30x18x18 marine fish tank (6mm glass, cover glasses, blue painted...

    New Nano Reef Keeper....?

That's good news about the external, it would be a waste to have it sitting around doing nothing. I will probably do as suggested, fill the chambers with live rock rubble and then a little bit of mechanical. I will then take out the bioballs and rings etc that come with it. The price of the...

    New Nano Reef Keeper....?

Hi, thanks for your reply Well i've been looking through and I've already discounted the fluval, as I don't particularly like the open top. Which leaves me with a plug and play option (D+D 24 gal, or orca TL 4/550) vs a custom. I've been checking the specs on the TL550 and the pump it comes...

    Argos Playsand.......any Good?

I'm not sure about the plant growth, but I recently bought it for my 4 footer and I love it! Very cheap and a very good, clean substrate.

    What To Choose?

Thanks for the input - even if everyone has confused me more! So I wouldn't be overstocked with any of those lists? Would I be overstocked if I choose any of the cichlid combo's, with 5 silver dollers and 5 boseman/banded rainbows (as I know these both get ~5inches each)? I realy dont' want a...

    What To Choose?

    I'm finalising what I will be stocking in my juwel rio 240 (48 x 16 x 20) - which is filtered with 2 x tetratec ex1200's. What list would you say is most likely to work long term? list 1 1 x severum 5 x silver dollers 8 x tiger barbs 6 x peppered corys list 2 1 x blue acara, 1 x firemouth...

    1 "centre-piece" Fish

Thanks for all the suggestions. I think a trip to the LFS to see whats available is in order!

    1 "centre-piece" Fish

Well the only small fish I'd be concerned about is the tetras....and I'd only get a shoal if the cichlid would "allow" it as such. Will certainly keep this in mind though blue acara :good:

    1 "centre-piece" Fish

Yeah I'd hard about this mistake being quite common. Any tips on how I'd be able to spot the difference given how small they are? or is it best just to stay clear? As i realy don't want anything too agressive considering what else I'm going to keep

    1 "centre-piece" Fish

Thanks for the replies. Ryan, there's nothing I want in particular, just a large(ish) good personalitied cichlid who's happy on his own! The festivium looks a real beauty, are they fairly common? I don't remember ever seeing one at the LFS (a v. big one) but I could always go and ask. I've...

    1 "centre-piece" Fish

Would appreciate any help/advice on this topic as I am completely stuck! I have a juwel rio 240 (48 x 16 x 20 - 67gal) that I picked up over a month ago now and am still torn over what to stock in it. After lots of mind changing, I've decided that my general "plan" is going to be 1 x...

    Silver Dollers

Thanks for all the help everyone. I'm still undecided which dither I'm going for as it'll depends on my centre piece fish - the one i'm having most trouble deciding for! Thanks though this thread realy helped. C

    Silver Dollers

I quickly googled giant danio and it says they get to about 6 inches, which is about the same as a silver doller. Would they be better suited simply because they are a lot slimmer?
  16. H

    Silver Dollers

Thanks for the tip n3ont3tra. Well I don't want to feel as if they're squeezed in at all but seen as I've only just upgraded to the 4 footer I won't be upgrading again any time soon! Are they particularly fast growers? What I'm looking for is a nice school of "medium" fish i.e. not tetras, to...

    Silver Dollers

Is a juwel rio 240 (48" x 16" x 20") (67gal) big enough long term for 5 silver dollers, or would they take up a lot of my stocking space? I've read conflicting reports on how big they get. Thanks

    Geophagus - Info!

Thanks for your reply. So would I be ok keeping a group of 6 in a rio 240? and if i could, I was thinking of going for cory's, maybe some botia striata and some ditherfish, like serpae tetras as tankmates? and for decor I was thinking of play sand as substrate, plenty of driftwood and some river...

    Geophagus - Info!

hi Since buying my rio 240 i've been pretty set on getting a severum - until I saw a fully grown one yesterday at the LFS, i couldn't believe how "deep" it was! So i've decided it would be unfair to keep it in such a small tank. while I was there however i saw a geophagus blue and thought it...

    I Need A Filter

There are loads of articles on external filters on the website (this is how I decided on mine), and these include a review topic on a number of filters in the hardware section. Maybe you should read through those before "shouting" when you don't get a reply for a day or so. *edited to include...

    Python

So an ordinary garden hose should fit on the official connectors for the python?

    Python

Hi, Can anybody who uses a python give me the diameter of the hose please? I bought all the parts recently and now just need the tubing but was wondering what size the official version is? 1"? Thanks!

    Pythons (diy And Off-the-shelf)

a 50ft python over here will set you back at least £60 from what I've been able to find ($120). My DIY one with the python bits and stuff should come to abouve £30 or $60 - but they're realy expensive over here.

Is This Stuff Fine As A Substrate?

    Pythons (diy And Off-the-shelf)

Just to let you know, I was going to buy a new python a few days ago but the price for a decent size really put me off. So i bought all the individual official parts for it (on off switch, faucet pump, connectors etc) for £17 at http://www.fishandfins.co.uk/ and I plan on picking up some hose...

Is This Stuff Fine As A Substrate?

Yeah last time was a nightmare to be honest. My only concern is that in the 240 it sits just above the bottom of the tank, held up completely by silicon. Obviously resting it on the bottom with one blob of silicon will mean I have to lower the water level slightly but I don't think it should be...

Is This Stuff Fine As A Substrate?

On my old juwel tank I eventually replaced the internal it came with with an external. I plan on doing this to my rio 240 but I won't be getting a new external for a good few months yet. Will I be ok cutting the filter out in a rio 240 but still using it for the time being? Maybe just putting...

Is This Stuff Fine As A Substrate?

Thanks for the advice, I'll wait until the parts get here and take them down and see what fits best when i'm there. It seemed stupid paying the £60 for the 50 foot, when I could buy all the official parts for £15 and just pick up (a lot more) garden hose for cheap

Is This Stuff Fine As A Substrate?

speaking of B&Q, I ordered some spare parts for a python yesterday plannign to put it together with some hose from b&Q. Do i need to get a specific one? Do the regular hoses contain any unwanted chemicals?

Is This Stuff Fine As A Substrate?

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/part...Band%2Bsand.htm Compared to buying sand from an aquatics place its real cheap. I think I've read it can be used safely aslong as its cleaned properly?

    Stocking Ideas!

I was thinking about using mopani bogwood as one of the aquascaping features of this tank. Is there any way to control the amount of tannins realesed? I do like the stained water but I don't want it looking as if its just dirty water! Also, with 2x 40 watt lights have I got enough lighting to...

    Stocking Ideas!

Well I just googled Botia Striata and they seem much better! Grow much smaller and still very colourfull. I've never seen or heard of them before though, are they quite common? My LFS is a big maidenhead aquatics though so if anywhere has them i suppose they would? I think I will be introducing...

So how does a stocking of: 1. 1 x Severum 2. 6 juvie angels (cut down to a pair once formed - how quick does this happen, and if it takes a long time, am i beter just getting 2 or 3? 3. Some clown loaches 4. 20 or so rummynosed tetras 5. another tetra shoal? 6. bristlenose plec? Feel free to...

    Stocking Ideas!

Won't having a pair seriously cut down on the "peacefulness" of the tank though? I want to avoid any mating behaviour really as it causes so much problems in what other fish can be stocked.
  38. H

    Stocking Ideas!

Thanks for the tetra advice, I'd been wondering what tetras would be best as they'd need a bit of size and speed, depending on what cichlid I choose. I'd thought about keyholes too but had read that they were generally quite "boring", but I'm taking it that this is not the case? Also, are your...

    Stocking Ideas!

I'm not too concerned over the theme, but seen as this is my first "big" tank i would like to stock at least one "big" fish, something I've been unable to do until now. I've not seen uaru before, but I just checked out the profile and they get to 12" and need to be kept in groups? Is my tank...
