Is This Stuff Fine As A Substrate?

I wish i'd known about that, that colour would look cool too.

I've got a black/grey coloured sand, still looks good though!

On my old juwel tank I eventually replaced the internal it came with with an external. I plan on doing this to my rio 240 but I won't be getting a new external for a good few months yet. Will I be ok cutting the filter out in a rio 240 but still using it for the time being? Maybe just putting one blob of silicon at the top? Because when I cut out my old internal I had to remove all the fish etc and do it like that. If i could do it quickly while the tanks empty it would be much easier.

i personally cant see that being a problem, as long as its secure, then seems like a good idea. obviously less stress to tank and inhabitants to quickly remove one blob of silicon than to have to cut the whole thing out. much easier to get at with an empty tank too

Yeah last time was a nightmare to be honest. My only concern is that in the 240 it sits just above the bottom of the tank, held up completely by silicon. Obviously resting it on the bottom with one blob of silicon will mean I have to lower the water level slightly but I don't think it should be a problem.

Well I've done it and it took my 5 minutes, much easier b4 theres water in!

Leaving it in there now until I get my next external, but seems secure enough anyway!
