Mine Are Here! Micro Crabs, Lots Of Pics

Great pics, I'd think the Macrobrachium would be a threat to them? especially if they are slower and easier to catch than the cherry shrimp. I'll be keeping my ones in a nano cube-type tank on their own. It came with a power filter, but i'd think it may be very dangerous for the free swimming...

    Micro Spider Crab-limnopilos Naiyanetri Pics

I won the auction for £29 plus £7 postage, I think that is a fair price considering they are €7 (£6.30) each in Germany, plus €25 (£22.70) shipping and with no live arrival guarantee from there. So the price works out cheaper for the 5, £5.80 each plus much less shipping costs.

I'll also be receiving these from the ebay seller soon. I dont think they would climb out of the tank? I might adjust the lid or add a condensation tray though to make sure.

    Ideas

There are completly aquatic freshwater crabs that are kept, and some species that are almost completly aquatic, but they arent that common. Most are only sold in Germany at the moment.

    Tai Devil Crab: Need Help

Ive kept my Rainbow Crabs in purely freshwater (around 2/3 of the tank is land) for around 6 years now, one is huge, at least 20cm across. They were both very small when I got them, they moult every 6 months or so in the water, and have never had any problems (other than one losing one its...

    Tai Devil Crab: Need Help

Are you able to get a picture? as It may help getting it identified. Most Crabs sold as Thai Crabs are a brackish, semi-terrestrial species, Pseudosesarma moeshi (formally Sesarma bidens) I have seen Heterothelphusa fatum sold as "soapdish crabs" though, and they are true freshwater. Rainbow...

    Dragon Goby

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I was searching for info on Dragon Gobies, and found this thread. I hope to get a Dragon Goby fairly soon, I was going to keep it in brackish water, but since they can be kept in freshwater apparantly? I will attempt to keep it in my 4ft freshwater tank.

The Crabs In Pets At Home

They are probably Red Clawed Crabs, Pseudosesarma moeshi. They are brackish, and need a land area as well as a heated water area.

    Oziothelphusa Or Spiralothelphusa Sp

This species is either an Oziothelphusa or Spiralothelphusa sp. They are true freshwater, and almost completly aquatic, and only really need land for breeding (as they deposit eggs in the ground apparantly) I only have one for now, but should be getting more soon.

    Geosesarma Sp. "vampire"

its variable, some have a whitish/yellowish pattern on the top of the carapace though. According to their site they have them in stock now, the are vampire crabs, http://www.planetinverts.com/store/index.p...ex&cPath=74 The Cheetah Crabs on their site (Parathelphusa pantherina) are also a...

    Geosesarma Sp. "vampire"

yeah, they have purple claws, Ive read on another forum that maidenhead aquatics has stocked them in the UK as "purple crabs" Yeah, Ive been keeping them in freshwater since I got them around 4-5 months ago, the young are fully developed when they hatch, unlike brackish species.

    Geosesarma Sp. "vampire"

wilder reptiles, they are based in the UK, I think they may have got them from Germany though.

    Geosesarma Sp. "vampire"

Today Ive noticed some baby vampire crabs in their tank. Ive counted seven, but theres likely more of them in there. They are approx 2-4mm or so, and are fully formed crabs. In the first pic the crab is towards the top right of the picture, next to the white gravel, and a picture of one...

Does Anyone Know Of Any Good Kind Of Freshwater Crabs?

The ones sold as King Crabs, that look like Fiddler Crabs are a true freshwater species, Heterophelphusa fatum. Usually only males are sent from the suppliers though, and arent very hardy either apparantly.

    Are These Brackish?

Can this species be kept in brackish water? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Bumble-bee-horn-snai...1QQcmdZViewItem I already keep a Neritina natalensis, and lots of Melanoides tuberculata with my Mudskippers, and have done for around 6-8 months with no problems, and was thinking of adding a couple more...

    My Rcc & Hermit Tank

I havent kept Red Clawed Crabs yet, so not sure? maybe keep them in seperate set-ups? or try the Crabs with less water and see how they react. I keep similar species to them, with not a lot of water, and they do fine.

    My Rcc & Hermit Tank

It may be. Personally I think its probably too much water for Land Hermit Crabs, theres plenty of information and ideas for housing them on this site http://www.hermit-crabs.com/

    My Rcc & Hermit Tank

Do they enter the large water area much? they can actually drown fairly easily.
  28. K

    My Rcc & Hermit Tank

Do the Hermit Crabs go into the water? the set-up is very different to how they are usually advised for Land Hermit Crabs, unless its Clibanarius africanus, or Blue Leg Hermits you have? Land Hermit Crabs should have access to both brackish and freshwater, usually a small bowl of each.

Just checking my Aegla, I noticed one baby. Its around 5mm long at the moment, I dont know how many is in there altogether, they have a large piece of bogwood to hide under and amongst, and substrate to burrow into. Anyone know what an average sized clutch for them is?

Ok,who Did It! Giant Snakehead In A River In Lincolnshire

It would probably be Cambarellus patzcuarensis. I saw them for sale in my lfs not so long ago, there was also some for sale on tropical fish finder, but they were quickly taken from the site. I decided its probably best I didnt buy any.

Ok,who Did It! Giant Snakehead In A River In Lincolnshire

I agree about the Signal Crayfish, that and many others (including Procamberus sp marble) should be banned, its a little unfair to ban them all though, which the exception of one. Lots of other species available in Europe probably wouldnt survive in the wild here. It wouldnt suprise me if more...

Ok,who Did It! Giant Snakehead In A River In Lincolnshire

Crayfish are banned in the UK, every species except one, though some of the species banned wouldnt even survive in cold temperatures here. So it wouldnt suprise me at all if they were banned soon.

Geosesarma Sp Vampire, Yellow Eyes And M. Aubryi

I'll certainly post any interesting developments with my ones. Ive since been told that captive Crabs has been bred in captivity, someone has bred three generations of them in his tanks. With no access to brackish water. They can also be bred, when given access to brackish water though. I...

Geosesarma Sp Vampire, Yellow Eyes And M. Aubryi

Geosesarma Sp Vampire, Yellow Eyes And M. Aubryi

I dont really see too much of a problem, lots of species not yet identified are kept. There is lots of information on their general care, so people buying them can have a good idea. I understand about taking them from the wild though, which I cant really do much about, if I didnt buy them...

Geosesarma Sp Vampire, Yellow Eyes And M. Aubryi

I do see your point, to me though the evidence that they can be bred with no access to sea/brackish water is overwelming. Raising of the young with no brackish/sea water im not too sure of now though? it has likely been accomplished though, hopefully I will be able to find out.

    African Water Frogs?

There are loads more than two types, I keep 7 species of them, including a subspecies. I agree though, Xenopus laevis and Hymenochirus boettgeri are the ones almost always seen for sale in shops. They eat live and frozen foods like bloodworm, tubifex worm, and also sinking pellets and small...
