wow that look nice. the traditional view would be that you have too much water. it is suggested that a 3/4 land 1/4 water split or better still 2/3 land 1/3 water. i would also be concerned as to how you intend to keep the substrate from slipping into the water area. i look forward to your progress post.

Yes, my water is brackish, and actually iv'e personally been thinking about adding more land than water actually.. just trying to figure out how to do it. For the most part, it doesnt seem like the land is spilling into the water, seems to be pretty stable. Nonetheless, I should find a way to make it 100% stable, any ideas for it? And would my 4 RCCs mind if there is less water?

i have, but its complicated, and you would use the use of the tank for a week or so. if you are up for it i will do some drawings and write a piece on the method.

Do the Hermit Crabs go into the water? the set-up is very different to how they are usually advised for Land Hermit Crabs, unless its Clibanarius africanus, or Blue Leg Hermits you have?

Land Hermit Crabs should have access to both brackish and freshwater, usually a small bowl of each.

they are land hermit crabs. their dish is fresh water, and the other water is brackish.

they hardly ever step near the water. they seem to stay under the 'rock-like' house most of the day. Is that a bad sign?

Well, assuming i should be adding more land, what do you think my RCCs would think about that? Would they be irritated with less water? Or could they care less?

I havent kept Red Clawed Crabs yet, so not sure? maybe keep them in seperate set-ups? or try the Crabs with less water and see how they react. I keep similar species to them, with not a lot of water, and they do fine.

Hmm ill try sometime, at the moment im thinking of doing a water cleanup

the RCC will be happiest with 2 gallons per crab brackish water. but the land mass must be damp! this is what makes it so difficult to build a lodge. you say you have a 55g. treat the tank as two, split in the middle. make one side the hermit area, and the other for the RCC. you will still have to deal with the damp land problem. but on the part of the RCC, there are no real problems keeping the two together. can't answer for the hermit on this though.

there is a big difference between the RCC and your fav freshwater crabs, lol. the RCC is from the mangrove swamps and tidal estuary's, Geosesarma live around water not on it. from what i can tell range much further up the rivers, and are live breeders, i believe, unlike the RCC which releases its young whilst they are still lave.

Well i woke up this morning to find one of my RCCs dead... which in a way, I saw coming. From the get-go, when i bought him he only had 3 legs, and 1 claw, obviously not good. But not im wondering, did he die because of .. i gues you could say something like 'depression? lol Just joking, but my other RCCs seem to be doing well, if anything, it looks like some kind of white matter is building up on the tank floor. And are bloodworms the best food for this situation?
