I usually feed my fish only once at night and enough for all the food to be eaten within approx 30 seconds. If you have live plants, then the fish should not get really hungry anyway. As other have stated, they will keep eating and this could lead to a very quick or painfull death with all...

I placed a Bristlenose in the larger tank but cannot find him. This was a few days ago.........is he hiding and is this common to sometimes have fish go awole and perhaps come back? I also placed a second one in there about 3 hours ago and now I can't find that one either! :shout:

After only having the new smaller tank for just under 3 months, I'm happy to announce the arrival of Bertie (our first baby Swordtail) As a result, I have had to move the clown loaches now into my larger tank so that Bertie can survive. Parents are doing fine as are the grandparents. Although...

Thought this would be a funny posting. If you do name them, please share their names with the rest of us... When I first started with the small tank, I had Neone and a Peppered Catfish. Cause he was so much larger then the Neons, we call him Jaws !!!

I think possibly that it was either the sudden strain on the filter that most probably raised ammonia or nitrite. These can kill fish quickly...........have you got the results of the water test yet??

My clear PVC hoses for both inlet and outlet to/from my canister is approx 1 .5 meters each. Do you clean these and if so, how??

Just interested how often you clean your filter and if the size of the tank is an important factor?

Damn Miss Wiggle, half an hour to clean your tank....... I did mine for the first time with the new large tank and using a powered vacuum..........took like 10 minutes although I'll assume thats because I only have a few fish in it currently. It sucks the dirt and water out amazingly...

Does anyone clean out there hoses for their external filters? Mine were clean but after 3 weeks, the look a little dirty and wondering if this is perfectly normal? I can't remember as its been more then 20 years since I was last involved with fishies............ :blush:

I would also consider the new Aqua One range if money is in short supply.......

Back to your stats, I think your tank is starting the 'cycle' process. You should start to see a large spike shortly in both Nitrite and Nitrate.....which will then drop down slowly with water changes...... However, be prepared to loose a few fish during this cycle.......... :crazy:

One more thing, could I have many more fish now that I actually have a larger tank then first ordered? I dont want anymore loaches as the 2 seem happy enough together..........want reasonably low maintenance........ie clean tank once a fortnight............ Was hoping for a few...

The 3 Neons are funny characters and are having a ball......... How do I clean the tank now......with all these plants, do I move them whilst vacuuming every fortnight?? Just curious..........

Fishies are there although I have moved the Neons and Dwarf barbs into the larger tank until its finished cycling........ I moved a large chunk of my old media filter and the supplied one from my LFS into the new filter of the larger tank as well but did not want to risk placing in all the...

I'll take a photo of the Moonlights on in a sec........hopefully the photo turns out O'K..........

Thanks for the replies...........I actually only added the plants yesterday and today............will be adding more as we go............I've ordered more but wont get here until another fortnight..... Since I had to stain the cabinet and hood, the smell is completely gone as I left it outside...
