    Kuhli Loaches

Does anyone have these guys in their tanks? I used to have them years ago but they seem to be quite scarce in the LFS. Also, are they pretty hardy fish? They always hide during the day so even if you do have them they're almost never in plain view.

    Can't Keep Plecos Alive

Well, I didn't want to drop a big chunk of change on a pleco so I went out and bought a Siamese/Chines Algae eater just to test out and so far so good. He hasn't been chasing anyone and seems very healthy. Maybe in a couple more weeks I'll take my chances with a pleco and see how it goes.

    Cory Food

I periodically feed my fish tubifex worms and when some of it falls to the bottom, my corys go crazy over the worms. I;ve even seen two corys try to eat the same worm, it's hilarious!!

    Julii Corydoras

I'm from the US and Julii cats go for about $3.95 and bronze go for about $1.50-$2.00. I've had my Julii for about 2 years and they're about 1 1/4"- 1 1/2" don't thinnk they're going to get any bigger. My tank is 26 Gallons though, so not to big.

    What would you do?

I've had my Julii for a couple years and they're pretty hardy except that they're a bit more timid than my bronze catfish. As soon as I get close to the tank they tend to scatter behind rocks and plants. Other than that, they're a joy to watch.

    Can't Keep Plecos Alive

Thanks for the link Tokis and everyone else. When I cleaned out the tank I left some of the old gravel in there and mixed it in with new gravel. I also saved 10 gallons of old water and didn't thouroughly clean the sponge in my aquaclear so there should still be some beneficial bacteria in...

    Can't Keep Plecos Alive

Wow! That was a lot of information but very helpful Tokis! I have a 29 gallon long and so far the cycling for the tank has been going well. I tested the PH yesterday and it was about 6.5-6.7. I have the aquarium pharmaceuticals master freshwater test kit and everything seems to be going fine as...

    Giant Oto

I'm positive they were oto's because I have a chinese algae eater. The giant oto looked identical in shape to a regular oto.

    Can't Keep Plecos Alive

I'm pretty sure they were common pleco's. I did remember that they had sunken bellies so something was probably wrong. I just cleaned out the tank and letting it cycle again so I'm going to give it another shot but this time I'm going to try some oto's.

    Giant Oto

I've never heard about these guys but when I went to this LFS that I haven't been for awhile I saw some large oto's. They're probably 4-5 times the size of regular otto's. The shape was identical except they weren't the typical black and white but pale brown. These guys were about 2 1/2" ...

    Acclimating New Fish

I've heard varying opinions about introducing new fish to a tank. Some people say float the bag for 15 minutes then let some of your tank water in the bag, let it float for another 10-15 minutes and let the fish go. A guy at this local fish shop told me that this was the wrong way to do it. The...

    Charcoal And Plants

OK, so the best way to remove the tint/discoloration is to perform water changes. Thanks for the great info people!

    Charcoal And Plants

I heard before that using charcoal (like the activated charcoal for aquaclear filters) removes nutrients in the water that the plants need and is thus not recommended. I know that charcoal is good for removing discoloration in the tank and helps clear things up but if it's hurting the plants I'd...

    Can't Keep Plecos Alive

I'm wondering if I'm not properly cleaning the tank and maybe that's why the plecos are dying. I thought they we're pretty hardy fish. All the other tetras and catfish seem to be doing fine. I usually don't do a complete cleaning of my tank, just water changes. I don't clean the Sand/gravel...

    Maintaining Ph

Well, it seems that the water always drifts to the acidic side. Also, I rarely sift through the substrate when I'm cleaning the tank I usually just take out a percentage 10-20% and replace it. Should I be pulling out the plants in the tank and then do a proper substrate cleaning?

    Maintaining Ph

What's the best way to maintain PH in a tank? Do certain types of wood, gravel, rocks, or plants affect the ph of the tank? I've seen stuff like PH blocks that fish shops sell that claim to keep the tank in a specific range. Any advice is appreciated.

    Can't Keep Plecos Alive

OK, here's the problem. I've purchased 3 plecos within a 6 month period and they've all died within 2-3 days of putting them in the tank. :( I acclimated them by floating the bags in the tank for 15-20 minutes and then I slowly introduce some tank water into the bag and let it float another...
