    Disney World Visit

I just returned from a vacation to disney world last week and took some videos... I've already posted one of them here. First, is the eel tank at Epcot: Here is a cuttlefish display. I am pretty sure those are cuttlefish eggs at the end of the video. to be continued...

Video Of African Cichlids & Hippo

I had a chance to go to animal kingdom in disney world last week and got some video of their african cichlid & hippo display: If you get bored, skip to the end - the hippo is quite cool...

    Fish Id Help

I spent last week snorkeling around Panama City, FL and found these fish in a bay on Shell Island in St. Andrews State Park: Can anyone tell me what kind of fish this is? There were thousands of them - some about 4-6", and some 1.5-2.5", both with very similar markings. In the bay, they had...

Advice On A 55G Set Up

I have a 55G community tank that was wiped out on Wednesday - we lost power and my battery powered air pump apparently pumped some goo into the tank. Anyhow, only the plec and 3 adolescent angels survived. I lost a 5 year old angel from the first batch of fry I had even raised :( I moved the...

Definitely the python. I am not sure how someone would manage a large tank without one.

    My Dad Asked Me....

I have numerous tanks on the second floor. In fact, I have a 125G tank on my second floor bedroom. My house is standard wood frame construction, but only about 5 years old. One think I have done is set my tanks on load bearing walls. This means that there isn't a lot of strain on the floor...

    Rena Xp 1?

I would agree on the XP2 recommendation. XP1 is a waste, just like the XP4 is a waste. 2 and 3 are the sweet spot.

    Breeding Angels

I have a pair that lays eggs every 8 days. I have another pair that lays eggs whenever they feel like it - 30 days, 10 days, 60 days. Never can tell. I think their are not strongly paired.

    Pictures Of My Babies!

That is pretty much what I am observing. They will both "leave the nest" for short periods - the male longer than the female. The female seems to be going out on a scouting trip, either looking for errant fry or invaders - not certain. The tank is super heavily planted with lots of hiding...

    Pictures Of My Babies!

My Guianacara geayi have apparently been busy. I came in after getting home from work and saw this: Sorry about the picture quality. I was rather excited at the time. I have several more pictures here: http://www.aquariu.ms/images/main.php?g2_itemId=865 Interestingly, I have a pair of...

    Rams And Angels Together?

I have been doing this for quite a while in 29G and 125G tanks - with many angels in the 125G and a mated pair in the 29G, never saw any issues. The angels and rams pretty much leave each other alone, unless there are eggs. Then it can get pretty ugly, but both types of fish seem to know to...

Yes, but then it depends on the particular angel.

What Brand Of Canister Filter Do You Feel Is The Best Overall?

I've found the rena xp filters to be quite cost effective and reliable. I have 3 XP2s, 2 XP3's and an XP4. I pretty much took the approach of "pick one and stick with it". I have found that to be good - it allows me to easily change filters without having to move hoses, etc. I suspect you...

Anyone Finding Dead Frogs In Their Pond?

I have found dead frogs floating in my pond on several occasions now. I think the problem is that they jump in and have no way to get back out. Anyone have a simple way to solve that? The only thing I can think of it to have some kind of narrow stick that sticks down into the water and slopes...

What is your opinion on the usefulness of UV filters in an aquarium? Do they help prevent disease, or just cost money to operate?

Has Anyone Used Glass Cages .com?

Not sure if I got lucky or what, but my tank is well put together. I did get the LIG, but I did not realize at the time that I could get the black silicone, which I regret. The other regret is that I got the 125G tall, instead of the long. Shipping was not bad - I think $70, but I had to...

Has Anyone Used Glass Cages .com?

I bought a 125G tank, stand and canopy from them early last year. The tank and stand were well made and I'm quite happy with it. The glass is about 1.5x thicker than I anticipated it would be, so it's quite heavy. I have read several horror stories with glasscages, though. Most of the...

Pair Of Rams In A 10 Gallon Species Tank?

Every week. I change about 120G of water every week. It does take time, that's for sure. If you don't think rams will ultimately die.

    New Angel

They will do that depending on mood. Mine will be completely pale in when I turn on the lights in the morning, and darkest before lights out. They will go almost completely silver when I am changing the water. My wife calls them "mood stripes".

Does Anyone Know Where I Can Get These?

Go to Home Depot or Lowes. They are sold as "river rocks". You have to buy a big bag, but you can pick out the ones you like.

    Strange Way To Die...

I had a swordtail in a 55G tank that i raised from a fry. It's siblings grew normally, but it stayed quite small - maybe 1/2" to 3/4". Anyhow, that fish was very peculiar. It would wedge itself between a breeding net and the glass - backing out and swimming away if I approached the tank...

    Digest For The Successful Aquarium

Completely agree, Skoppers. We have quite complex life support systems for keeping fish these days. Back in the day, I had an angelfish and a kissing gourami in a 29G tank and that was a lot! Now, I have CF lights, compressed CO2 systems, massive canister filters, timers, uv filters...

    The Old Days.

I recall in the 80's having an HOB filter that to the best of my recollection was quite similar to today's HOB, but we didn't have the cool disposable filter cartridges. It was a messy job of changing the filter cover and pouring in new carbon. I had fish for probably 10 years without knowing...

Know Any Sites That Sell Cheap Custom Glass Aquariums?

I bought a 125G with the stand and canopy from glasscages.com - and got the LIG glass on 3 sides. I am very happy with the tank, but I would say it wasn't a bargain, though I paid about 1/2 to 1/3 of what a similar setup would have cost from a LFS. I will add that before I bought my tank from...

    Pond Temperature Swings

I have a pond outside (pics here) that I have some goldfish (sarasa, comet, shabunkin), and a few koi, along with a bunch of rosy red minnows. I have noticed that I lost about 3 koi over the winter. It is possible that they were picked up by birds. we have been having a lot of wide...

    Help

I am a little unclear - are the phosphates appearing in your tap water, too, or you just have phosphates in your aquarium? Assuming it's the aquarium you're talking about, there are some products like phosban (I think) that claim to take care of them, but I don't trust chemicals like that. I...

    Fish Id Please

Very interestinly, I bought 2 bolivian rams at the same time, and one of the cupids (Assuming that is in fact, the proper species) seems to have paired off with one of the bolivian rams and it currently making a hole in the substrate, presumably for eggs. Seems like a romance doomed to failure.

    Dead Ram Diagnosis

ram's are very very very very sensitive to water quality, in much the same was as discus are. The disease you saw is most likely due to the immune system of the ram being depressed and opportunistic bacteria coming along and wreaking havok. PS, don't flush live fish. Make sure they are dead...

    Has Anyone Used Tetracycline?

I believe the normal dose is every 24 hours for 5 days. Keep in mind that tetracycline in a broad spectrum anti-biotic, and will kill ALL bacteria - bad and good. You will have an uncycled tank after just the first dose. Ammonia in a tank where you have sick fish will make things much much worse.
