Dont worry about the delay. Eggs have gone now. Don't stand a chance of protecting them. Part of the reason to move them on. I can deliver if you would like? Or you can pick up.

    Lighting Regime For Oscar

Leave the snails in the tank, unless you have a real problem with them, they do more good than bad in my opinion. The snails will feed on algae and uneaten food the oscar will most likely churn up.

    Eheim Classic 2213+ External

I have an Eheim 2217, in my opinion it is a great filter; yes it's "no frills" but this leaves little to go wrong with it. It holds large amounts of media, has a fair flow rate and as said doesn't need a huge amount of maintenace. The only problem with it is the priming, but it's not the end of...

    Just Got More Tank Inmates

Definetely not jurupari. The spots are an obvious give away. Jurupari are basically plain shiny sliver with some spangling. Daemon is a possibilty for a species as you have said, that would have been my first idea. Look up the jurupari project for help ID'ing jurupari.

    F0 Wild Male Blue Acara

£25 for a blue acara? Ok it's F0 but you can still get them for £5.50 at 4" if you look hard enough. In my LFS I bought them for 50p each, they were just normal run of the mill blue acaras though.

    Angelfish Breeding Journal

Tolak also breeds and raises on a much bigger scale, so will have room to accomodate a huge spawn with near on full success rate. Where as in your position I'd be aiming for quality not quanity.

    Angelfish Breeding Journal

Why all the chemicals? I've never had that bad a problem with eggs fungusing over to myself out enough to add three chemicals to the water.... Also what's the reasoning behind the copper?

    Oscar Mates

What type of filtration will you have on the tank? Ideally you wouldn't want any tank mates in a 75g with an Oscar. I definetely wouldn't add a cichlid like a blood parrot due to competition for territory.

    What Combo Can I Have?

Bogwood is more likely to soften water, I find it seems to release more tannins. It doesn't matter when you put it in, now and the fish will adjust to it when added to the tank or later when they will still have to adjust to it, though wood releases tannins slowly so it wouldn't affect the fish.

    Red Severums

They are line bred yes. But no they aren't normally always male. ~T~ a member of this site had a breeding pair. They are known as super red severums and should be treated just the same as other severums. So they are just as easy to bred as other severums. They don't seem all that hard to get...

    Severum Breeding....

Shouldn't take long, if they were breeding regularly before I wouldn't expect it to be more than two weeks. What are you feeding them?

    What Combo Can I Have?

Convicts are Central American cichlids, not from the Amazon (South America) So the keyholes which are from the Amazon, would be a better choice for a biotope tank.
  32. jayjay

    Severum Breeding....

This is just how I usually raise cichlids but I find, a really small tank, 12"x8x8, so about 12 litres, best for hatching the eggs and getting the fry through the first few weeks. Then the 40 litre tank you have would be perfect for the next stage. But ideally you'll want about a 25g 36x12x12...

    Albino Marbled Convict Cichlids

What are you planning to do with them? You know you can't keep them. If a pair formed even in a 5 foot tank you're other fish would probably take a good beating/be killed. A single one would probably be too aggressive as well with things like Endlers. So I'd suggest you try and find a new home...

    Severum Breeding....

What size tank will you use to raise the fry James? Ideally you'll want to use BBS or microworms as a fry food, but I only ever used frozen BBS and crushed flake. I wouldn't use any chemicals like methelane blue to prevent fungus, it shouldn't be that much of a problem. Like I said before I'd...

    Severum Breeding....

Have they raised fry before or just laid eggs? Also do you have experience raising cichlids? I've bred severums before, one of my pairs are about to spawn as I type this. Are you going to be trying to breed them in the main tank you have? I would suggest you remove the object the eggs are on...

    Growth Of Pink Convicts

And I have no proof of this; but I'd assume that a severum X convict, would grow fairly large instead of small.
  37. jayjay

    Growth Of Pink Convicts

Breeding can hamper growth, from what you've said I would think the breeding is why they aren't growing so big. Especially if they are laying eggs every few days, that would really take it out of the female compared to the pair protecting one brood for a couple of months, which would only...
  38. jayjay

    Growth Of Pink Convicts

Are the fish breeding? If you allow fish to breed at such a young size, often most of their energy goes into that, producing eggs, guarding the fry etc. Rather than growing. How often are the doing water change? What size is the tank? Temperature? All of the above questions can limit/hinder...

How Long Does It Take For A Green Terror To Grow Its Bump

The humps are usually a sign of dominance. And don't grow unless the fish is "in charge of the tank", with something it shows off to. Many adult male cichlids don't develop a nuchal hump for various reasons.

    Breeding Severums, Lowering Ph

Give them time to get it right. I wouldn't mess about with the pH, they aren't that fussy. Keep up a good diet and regular water changes, perhaps raise the temperature slightly. Mine usually breed after large water changes.
