ive got all the tests! :) but... i dont really use them unless i see a change in the fish behavior. thats my first clue that something is up. Having the test kits really helps in narrowing down what the problem is (if its not a ich/fungus/parasite)

what about plants? and... any idea of what concentration of salt will do in the fish that cant tolerate it? i mean, what is the toxic lvl in ppm that will really do in a fish? Am i right in thinking that the osmotic presure differential is what makes salt such a good cure for several of the icky...

Ive been catching up on the boards and a question kind of poped up in my mind. Just what fish is "the salt treatment" toxic to? cuz it sounds like salt is a wonderful cure for alot of stuff that gives fish the :sick: ?

is colloidal silver the same thing as Silver nitrate? a colloidal soultion is just suspended particals of silver. I know that silver nitrate will cure eye "googers" on cats/dogs/livestock. The reason i ask is because silver is generaly a neutral metal by its self it dont do much.

My stupid snail (big snail named Monstro 2 inches across), who enjoyed rearanging my decor in my tank, moved my plastic log into a position that he got himself traped. Thus my huge snail expired in the corner of my tank gasping for breath :-( Found him this morning with his little breather tube...

This all suprises me also, my local petsmart is quite good. Ive never seen a floater/sinker in the tanks.. and they have even asked me what worked in curing a couple of my sick fish cuz they had a bug that was going around in the tanks.

Wow.. lots going on there.. :blink: my only comment is that ive found neons real hard to "save" from anything they dont seem to be very hardy at all.. I hope someone can help ya man, it sounds like you have some real bad fungus problem. My only help i can offer is to seperate the sick ones...

The one time i skip a step in isolating a fish (in this case 2 bleeding heart tetras) one of them starts with the Ich :sick: . Go figure. :rolleyes:

Same in the US. You could try a bit of skulldudgery and go to a Feed store (for big animals cattle/sheep/swine) and just buy it. In the US lots of the antibiotics are sold over the counter without a prescription. If the guy asks you what its for just tell him you have a sick animal. Ive NEVER...

not to mention it will depend alot on your moniter setings.. :blink: everybodys computer moniter is different, so any "true color" indicators will be off by quite abit.

I supose that i shouldnt post when im tired :), what i ment to say was even a healthy looking fish carries Ich/Fungus with it all the time. So the "stuff that gets in a fish tank" is brought by the fish themselves. No matter how healthy the fish look, they are alredy packing the bugs/fungus...

It would be my guess that, even when you DO buy a healthy looking fish. They come with all the bugs that we have all had to fight at one time or another. Ich/fungus/parasites are all present when you buy the fish, just like in a human your probably packing around all the worst bugs that you...

Ya.. im ready for that one, Im an EMT/Fireman and ive got a set of O2 bottles in my pickup truck for doing CPR (or emergency O2 for my fishys) :thumbs: 2 bottles of O'z will last me about 6 days at .10 liters per min :)

Ive been doing the great hobby for one year now and ive only had 3 fish deaths! I started out with a 5 gallon tank and 5 neon tetras. Now im up to a 20 gallon tank and have only lost 3 fish! From reading here ALOT that seems to be an accompishment ( from a raw newbie that is) Death number one...

my snail has a brain :shifty: he keeps moving one of my plants out of a corner and pushing it to the other side of the tank.. thats along way. i couldnt figure out what was going on untill i caught him pushing it along :)
