It could also be debris from your filter/piping that comes out once you switch your filter back on after cleaning. It might be worth adding some floss if you don't have any already. Pauly.

Pelletts twice a day, small amount in the morning, a bit more on the evening. Frozen twice a week replacing the evening pellet feed. Starve day now and again, particularly if my maintenance is overdue. However they always eat everything I feed them so not much point in them really. Great...

It's probably more your Kh you want to improve (stops the Ph from changing). Short term measure is adding a teaspoon of bicarb to your fresh water during water changes. A handful of crushed corel in your filter will improve it over the longer term. Pauly.

I'm not sure that an air pump is that essential. If your aquarium was lacking oxygen then the fish would be gasping for air at the top. However as you have real plants, this could be happening at night when the lights are off and the plants use the oxygen in the water. Keep an eye on whats...

You're putting the new fish who are used to good water conditions into your tank which obviously has very bad water conditions. This stresses the new fish out causes the white spot etc. Your fish that are 'ok' have got used to the bad conditions which is why they're still alive, but they will...

You need to consider your consequent CO2 and Oxygen levels. Check out the planted tank threads on here.

All the fish you listed are standard run-of-the-mill fish. Maybe you should look at different sorts such as Malawis or even marine - or perhaps just bigger fish like bala sharks if you get a big enough tank. Or buy a Playstation .......
