    Brichardi

I recently moved a pair of neo brichardi from my large tank, where they were regularly breeding, to a smaller tank. I needed the big tank for some other fish. Anyway, ever since being moved to the smaller tank, the fish have fought alot. Is this normal? They don't seem to be a loving pair like...

    When feeding Baby Brine Shrimp...

Hi I just finished feeding my fry baby brineshrimp for the first time. The fry are in a 10 gallon tank with a sponge filter. Just wondering if next time I should turn off the filter while the fish are feeding so shrimp will not get sucked in and wasted. By the way....I love the shrimp because...

My fry tank gets that but I think it's because I feed them egg yolk.

    Trying to get a Job!

fish newbie, How old are you? I could swear that you said you were approximately 14. Is that correct? No offense but pets stores, such as petsmart, usually will not hire people under the age of 16 for a number of reasons. Not saying you are any of these...

WOOHOO! Got A Job At A Fish Store!

Wow, your only 14? Here in California you have to be 16 to get a working permit. I am planning to get a lfs job when I get my license in january. I'm 16 right now :) The problem is I have lots of homework so it will have to be good hours..mostly on weekends.

    Cichlid Tank

Yea, I think ordering online would be cool since the selection is so big. Though I do agree that around $25 for a shipment is too much.

    Just about tetra fish

Thats cool that you guys are from singapore. I live in the United States but my mom is Singaporean and I go there for about 2 months every summer.

    Mist Maker

That sounds really cool. My 4th grade teacher had a terrarium with a waterfall which generated moisture and fog. The humidity was neccesary since she kept tree frogs and such.

My Clown Knife at the Minnesota Zoo!!!

Seriously! How can you give up a tank :o ? Man...if I lived near you I would gladly take it off your hands for a fair price ;)

    Wana Add More Tetras..

Yea thats a pretty good idea on moving the cories. Its a shame though because cories really promote good hygene on the bottom of the tank, as far as left over food and stuff goes. But hey, the cories will probably be happier in the 30...I know I would ;) Just in case you didn't know those...

    What's this fish?

I agree with ghost and juan. Painted fish don't look like that.

    my new 125gl

I don't think beneficial bacteria colonize in the water. The colonize on gravel, rocks, filter material, ect. So using old water imho is not going to cycle your tank

    New 100g tank

I think the wires are going to be undergravel heating....great for water circulation and plant growth. Though I think that it prevents you from using some of the smaller gravel and sand substrates.

    Tubiflex..

Some respectable private fish stores will carry "clean" tubiflex. If you doin't mind if the things are dead then there is a site where you can get all kinds of fish food which has been blasted with radiation to kill all nasties. The address is here..just copy and paste...

    Breeding Angels.

The story with the babies getting trapped is very true. I lost about 14 baby mollies because they would run away from fish into the gravel! Once in these little tight holes they would get stuck and die.

    Fry food affecting growth rates

Thats cool that you breed bettas kossy. I have heard that it is quite challenging and takes time and patience. I fed my fry the eggyolk today, the way you told me. They went crazy for it! Way more enthusiastic then with the ground up flake food. Thanks again for the advice

    Fry food affecting growth rates

Thanks for the advice on the egg yolk kossy. Hopefully after doing this I will get me fry to actually grow faster.

    Fry food affecting growth rates

My molly and guppy babies have been growing excruciatingly slow on powdered flake food. Just wondering baby brine shrimp or some other subsitute would speed up the process to a normal or acclerated rate.

    Potted Plants surviving without substrate

I want to put a bunch of potted plants in my fry tank since they stay on the bottom without gravel and they will hide my fry from preg females i put in occasionally. The question is: will they survive without substrate?

    Planted Tanks

In a tank with plants everywhere do you need to vacuum? I heard that you should never disturb roots and if there are lots and lots of plants not doing this is impossible if you plan to vac. Will the plant roots make use of all the extra food and poo in the gravel, essentially cleaning it for...

Red Platy who sits at bottom with clamped fins

I'm pretty sure it is not skin flukes because she has normal breathing and has nothing wrong with her on the outside. She does become very isolated sometimes but does occasionally swim around normally especially when it is time to feed.

    Fry metamorphosis

I was reading that in marine fish this does happen. Like in Clown fish after about 14 days the babies stop hanging around the top of the tank and change from small creatures with very big eyes to little versions of their parents. Just wondering if this happened in some freshwater species because...

    Fry metamorphosis

I'm not really asking about any fish in particular. But I wen to my lfs and they had a pair of these beautiful gray fish with long fins with thin extensions. Around them were about 5 babies who were very small but looked exactly like the adults! I heard this is called metamorphosis. When does it...

Red Platy who sits at bottom with clamped fins

She's been acting like this for about 5 days. All other fish seem normal. I don't think she is pregnant because she isn't very fat. Any ideas?

    Cucumber????

You can par boil them which basically is just to clean them up more but usually people just put them in raw. When using the cucumber try using the insides after removing the seeds. My fish like this better because it is easier to eat then the hard part which we eat.

    Feeding my chinese algae eater

Thanks for the advice. I put in some cucumber. One piece is just plain cucumber you would eat and the other is that soft stuff with the seeds. The fish seem to love both. Hopefully the chinese algae eater will come up at night and have his fill. :)

Chinese algae eater starving to death

I was told that chinses algae eaters nearly always starve to death. Is there any way to solve this problem? How about plecos and ottos? Wouldn't the use of algae tablets fix the problem?

One of my chinese algae eaters has died

If you look at my signiture I had 2 of them in a 44 gallon. They ate all the algae in the first week, which was alot because my tank get lots of sun light. Then they started eating a certain plant, really ripping it up. Now the one that was the submissive one has died. I think there was little...
