    The office tank (Planted 75G)

Update some time later, with some nice population :) 20 emperor tetra (and 5 babies in the net, I found them hidden in the java moss when I removed the tetras from their holding tank) 12 corydoras Julii 10 otocinclus 12 adult red cherry shrimp and an unspecified amount of babies

Unidentified mollusk, what is this thing?

Tank is new, just a couple months old, there are a few... Same population control as for snails? (don't overfeed, outcompete them with shrimps?)

Unidentified mollusk, what is this thing?

1.5mm long thing that sort of looks like... A mussel? It has a shell and it sticks to things, does not seem to move, at first I thought them baby snails but the shell is flat.. Like a one-sided clam.. there are a few dozens in my tank now...

A kind of hair algae I had never seen before

It's a 75G, I can try some SAE, I'll see if my LFS has some. In the meantime I did a water change, fertilized, added Seachem excel

Is SAE dangerous for red cherry shrimp?

A kind of hair algae I had never seen before

Reading about it, it might be staghorn. Was not aware they came in green too. :)

A kind of hair algae I had never seen before

That thing on the moss, I have bits of it mostly on mosses and Montecarlo, nothing on plants with larger leafs, nor on rocks nor wood.. Grows slowly too.. Behaves similar to java moss in the way it sticks to things (does not stick to surfaces that don't have texture) and it's a lot less flowy...

Massive overnight die off in African Cichlid tank

Yeah if you have a single heater it's more likely. I had a heater fail before and I caught it before any death, but I still use a single heater inline to the canister and this frequently worries me. However I am afraid that with 2 heaters one breaks, you never notice because the other works...

Massive overnight die off in African Cichlid tank

Does the heater work? Is temperature stable? A heater with faulty temp sensor could have spiked the temperature up during the night?

    [rant] guppy fry tank _stinks_

I have a 10 gallon with.. 50? 60? guppy fry and I have been feeding them powder food twice a day and occasionally BBS.. I have been changing 50% water every week. I had no deaths in the frys, they seem happy.. They range in age from 4 weeks to 3 days old. But I went to change the water today...

    The office tank (Planted 75G)

I just spent 6 hours designing a planter that fits into my tank and is discreet yet big enough for my large peace lily: (yes I also have a real job, no I had never designed anything before, also I am home sick today so it's a good indoor activity) Now sent to a friend with 3d printer :)...

    The office tank (Planted 75G)

When I undid the 60g which was also dirted it did not have the specific bad smell tipical of rotting substrates. It did have a little funk, but within reason. It does however release tannins. I check semi regularly. Tank is under stocked, overfiltered, full of plants, I do check but I am not...

    Platy passed away really bloated

difficult to say after the fish is dead, but bloated dead fish usually is dropsy. Monitor all the other fish, any lifted scale means IMMEDIATE isolation. I have never personally seen a fish recover from dropsy, but some people have had success with methylene blue.

    The office tank (Planted 75G)

Brand new tank :) It's a 75G Seapora, home made very overbuilt stand, and it replaces my old 60G breeder that had an issue with silicon and was retired. Will reseal it (and maybe sell it?) when I have time. So this is 1 week in, tank is dirted (regular potting soil mixed with fine gravel and...

If you could have ANY fish tank setup with ANYTHING, what would it be?

8ft x 2ft x 2ft heavily planted, Altum angels, tetras, corydoras and otocinclus galore, with a few apistogrammas thrown in. Like 12 altum, 100 cardinals, 30 Corys, 30 otos and 3 pairs of apistogramma Agassizi fire red.
