Still Baffled How To Get Rid Of My Hair Algae

This hair algae will keep coming back if you do not dose adequetely. Excel will try to treat the result, but will not treat the cause. KH does not matter, pH does not really matter. Tom Barr has shown that a siesta does not much and can actually be bad for plants. Just set the photoperiod to a...

    Co2

Yep pressurised is THE way to go. No-where near the hassle of DIY. Now mine is set to a value it is stable and no worries until the bottle runs out! The length of time depends on the size of the bottle and depends on the individual tank.

    Bga Creeping Back

Your cycle was probably set back by using mature media and not adding anything to feed them so they died. Adding NPK and traces will not kill your bacteria. " got this plant bag food thingy but im not sure what this is adding" Exactly the point. All you need to do is buy 3 things: KNO3, KH2PO4...

    Bga Creeping Back

Plants require NPK like we need carbs, fats and protein. Plants need these at levels of ppm but algae can bloom in levels at ppb. You should be adding phosphate not taking it away.

    At Wits End With Algae

If you are still having problems it is clear you are not fixing the cause of the problem. In which case the algae will keep coming back. This algae is linked to low CO2. At the very least you should use 2x diy CO2. Ideally pressurised.

Still Baffled How To Get Rid Of My Hair Algae

What fertiliser are you using? Plants need Nitrogen, Potassium, Phosphate, Magnesium and trace elements. High concentrations of these do not CAUSE algae. In fact algae with thrive in low levels of nutrients but your plants will not. Same with light. Stick to an 8 hour photoperiod. Remove as...

    Jewels High-light System In Rio's

Hi, Yeah I think that would be enough lighting. The filtration probably won't be strong enough though. You want to aim for 10x tank turnover. So as you want a 125 litre tank you need a filter with 1200 lph rated turnover. Tetratec ex1200 is great! I have one on a rio 125. Rip out the stock...

    Advice About Plants

Hi there, Welcome to planted tanks! Please let us know the volume of your tank so we can figure out if your lighting is adequate. The bulbs you are using have a very high kelvin rating, it may be useful to get a daylight bulb. If your in the uk try here. Bacopa caroliana - try to plant 3 stems...

Just Before I Make A Potentially Expensive Mess

If you've got a 4 x 24 w light unit, why don't you got high-tech? Its going to cost around £80 for a Fire extinguisher, minor money for dry ferts. Depends if you're up for the maintenence???

Just Before I Make A Potentially Expensive Mess

If you are having that many problems with the tank atm maybe a strip down in a good idea. Get a big container and put in the fish, add the heater and filter to this. Empty the tank and give it a good clean perhaps, throw away the current substrate. You can even put it in the bath and use the...

    Help With Latest Test Readings!

Hi, If you've read thoroughly up on Ei you'll know you do not need to test and also how innacurrate the readings of these test kits are. Most Accurate Way To Measure Co2

That link doesnt work for me. Actually I think Aqua Essentials (AE) is down. I won't go into the whys or hows but what you need is:- 4 dkH solution and a test kit. Either something like the JBL permanent CO2 which is £12.99(?) but you may as well get a glass one from AE £14.99(?). The glass...

    Mudskipper Bit Me!

He has an absolutely amazing character. When setting up the new tank the other day it was filled halfway abd we let him go in first by himself for a day. He was doing laps and walking along the bottom, having a swim. Now the other fish are in he doesn't swim at the bottom. Really highlights the...

Do You Think An Algae Section Should Be Created

I kind of agree with both sides, as there seem to be increasing numbers of people from other areas of FF.net who are just coming on here to ask about algae. I think with kit fishtanks having T5 lighting of good levels will lead to more and more of this kind of problem.

    Filter Media For Planted Tanks

With the fluval externals the flow goes down through the sponges then up through the tubs. I let the sponges do their job, then I take out the dividers within the tubs. In my 204 there are 3 tubs. I put in filter floss in the bottom one (covering the entire grated area or the water will go...

Sam's Now To Be High Light And Tech 20g

I think it looks great and when grown in will look even better. I would prefer to see the very tips of the most left and right pieces of wood trimmed, as although they are AWESOME pieces I'm worried they are a bit too big for the tank. They seem to be touching both sides. This is just my opinion...
