    Brand New Large Tank

We are moving into a new house, and with that I am upgrading to a 45 gallon tank...it has the base perimeter/dimensions of a 30 gallon tank, it's just taller. I need you guys to help me design it. What type of substrate, plants, and good well sized fish. If you have any good suggestions just...

    Tourquois Gouramis Needs Help

What are you talking about? Corys are actually very hardy fish, in no way sensitive. There is even an entire article in Aquarium USA magazine describing the whole tank starting and cycling process, and it clearly states that nitrification can be started with hardy fish, including guppies...

    Algae Trouble

i usually keep lights on from about 7:15 AM to about 9 or 10 at night. It seems to be more bushy or hairy, its darkish green-grayish. It also has started growing on my mag-float algae scraper, which i keep in the tank on the glass.

    Algae Trouble

I have a 10 gal tank with a few live anachris plants, 3 ghost shrimps, 2 corys, 2 dwarf gouramis, 3 zebra danios, and a plec that grows to 3 or 4 inches. Conditions have been pretty nice overall, the fish are healthy, and swim happily. I recently treated for a fungal cottony rot in my pleco...

    Sick Plec

Well, I just got my first pleco, and he was looking pretty healthy day 1, but now, 4 or days after introducing him to the tank, he seems extremely shy. The only way to get a good look at him is to slowly approach the tank and not make any sudden movements. If anybody goes too fast, he flies to...

    Sick Pleco

After observing the white spots, they seem more like white bubbles in the tissue, but they do not look fuzzy, or hairy or anything, just bubbles in the fin. The one that really stands out is on the edge of one of his fins. He also seems to be getting one on the edge of his dorsal fin.

    Sick Pleco

never mind then, that is not it...oh man ive seen that before though, in NJ Pets, there was a 10 gal tank that they put fish for sale in, full of mollys. All but one were DEAD! how horrible is that. There was even a clump of 2 fish dead, and being washed around the tank. What a disgusting...

not at all, the are like on his swimming fins next to his dorsal, just a few random white spots, which actually do appear to be coming offf a tiny bit, like dead skin.

    Sick Pleco

tank has been up for a while, at least 6 or 7 months, nitrite is really low, nitrate could be lower, but its decent, ph is is a bit more acidic, hardness is slightly high. Well it depends on what you defenition of grains of salt is...like table salt, no its bigger than that, but like smaller...

    Sick Pleco

Just want to make sure my pleco isnt suffering from finrot or some other sickness...on either of his swimming fins he has a few white spots, each being pretty small, but easily visible, like a little bigger than the tip of a ball point pen. He has a few, and i'm worried it could be ich or...

    Molly Emeregency

Ok, so first i came home today to find my hillstream loach, dead and white floating around. After cleaning him out of the tank, I noticed my molly was acting extremely lethargic, barely moving, but fins still waving every couple of seconds, gills moving. He could swim upright, but his tail...

    Worms!

most likely nematodes...yeah i would starve the tank for a little while to improve water conditions, my fish are perfectly healthy, and plus my gouramis looking a little chubby :P , i probably do overfeed so ill cut down on that. But back to my point. I would put the tank on a fast for a few...

    Snail HELL

keep an eye out for eggs...strands of gelly on objects hanging off, gellied eggs to the glass...clean all of that out, i use an algae scrubber, but try not to just destroy the gelly and distribute the eggs, try to pick up everything. Also, place an upside down saucer on the floor of your tank...

    Worms!

Unfortunately i slept until 3:00 today (rough night), so my fish were overdue for feeding, so i quickly popped on the light and peered into my tank. I counted my fry. 1 down again. Not that big of a deal, but still sad. I started with 14, then moved to baby tank. Slowly it dropped to 8...
