Well if the wife wouldn’t be happy about using the bath then Simplest answer for sinking the wood is to get rid of the wife😂

    Burst stomache

So this has happened the last twice I’ve did water changes. On both occasions two of my five striped barbs have had their stomachs bursting. They have obviously died instantly. Will this be some sort of bug or is it to do with water pressure or something. Sorry for the horrible photo. Any...

    Can’t work it out

Thanks Alice. Going through a total wipeout, and almost twice must have been really bad,so no wonder you thought about not setting back up. You did though and in my view that’s a sign of a real aquarist,to suffer a blow like that and come back. I hope your aquarium or aquariums run good fir you...

    Can’t work it out

I haven’t been on the forum for a while now and I have plenty of threads to look through and catch up on,which is great. So an update on the columnaris outbreak in my 109G. The disease is still there, but, and it’s a hopeful but more than anything, but 99% of the remaining fish are doing...

    Can’t work it out

Well the fish deaths have stopped, but the tank isn’t out of the woods yet. I’ve put the problem down to columnaris, but I’m not sure. There is a weird cycle happening and it’s hard to work out what’s going on. So the fish develop these white marks, but after a water change the marks totally...

    Suffocate slowly or quickly?

i feel for you having to contemplate killing your Cory, but I would 100% opt for the flick on the head. Hold him/her in your hand like you are holding a stick, making sure it’s head is sticking out and use your index finger to flick the top of the head, like flicking a crumb off a table. Trust me...

    Can’t work it out

Thanks for the reply Gary👍 Today the fish look ok.I’m running the tank at 30 and it will remain like that for a couple of weeks. I just wish the ich had broke out in a recognisable way,the way I recognised it in the past. This time it caught me out because the denison barbs only had one white...

    Can’t work it out

Yes Alice, but turning the tank temp down helped me recognise the disease as ich,so if I didn’t turn it down the fish would still be passing one by one. I will keep this in mind in future. Thanks for the reply👍

    Can’t work it out

That is a possibility Naughts, considering the way it developed. The first fish to have a problem was a denison barb. There was a white mark half the size of a pinky nail directly on the back behind the dorsal. I put this down to the fact they are skittish and I thought it probably hit itself on...

    Can’t work it out

My own fault Naughts,I should have took the risk and turned the heater to full long before I did. I had never seen ich like this before. It started with a white growth just behind the dorsal fin of a denison barb, then another and another etc etc,it never spread over the fish til I turned the...

    Can’t work it out

Well at the end of it all it turned out to be a severe case of white spot. What threw me off the ich theory was the fact each fish developed a growth behind their dorsal fin and nothing else. I decided to turn the temperature way down in the tank in order to see if it would make a difference,and...

    Can’t work it out

Well I am still losing a fish a day,and I’ve decided once I have no torpedo barbs left, that I am packing fish keeping in,selling the tank and moving on. Losing a fish here and there I can handle, even if it’s still not good, but the way my fish have been dying literally one every couple of days is...

    Can’t work it out

My torpedo barbs have been suffering from a problem for a while now and I wish I put this up earlier as my shoal has depleted from 19 to 9,and I have found another dead one this morning. The first one to go had a white growth behind its dorsal,a sort of white fungus. The photo below shows a...

    Blackout fears

There’s a slim but possible chance parts of the uk will experience power cuts during winter. Now I don’t mean to sound doom and gloom, but has anyone made preparations. They said these power cuts would last three hours.I suspect this would affect smaller tanks more.

    Sultan pleco

He/she is a rarity to see when the lights are on,but since the rainbow shark passed away it has been out a couple of times.Even rarer to see is the snowball pleco, which I haven’t seen in a couple of months. They have plenty of cover, and even some of the corys can disappear for 2 or 3 weeks,infact...

    Tank WILL NOT complete cycle

I would be 99% confident you won't lose any,not due to parameters at least. Feed lightly and do weekly 30% water changes. They will be fine👍

    Corydoras eversi

Another cracking wee cory. These are good educational posts Byron.Keep them coming for us Cory lovers👍. I hadn't even heard of the eversi,so another new one for me.

    Fish rescue rainbow shark

Nothing wrong with a rainbow shark. They aren't tank wreckers and hide away most of the day. Now a black shark, that's different in my experience. My Otto's and Cory's were happy living along side two rainbow sharks. The plecs were more wary of them.

    Tank WILL NOT complete cycle

If it's been like that for weeks then I would do a massive waterchange and add some fish.

    New species CW 187

Looks similarly patterned to the corydoras Loretta. The Loretta is a pale blueish colour with dark spots and has a taller dorsal. The CW 187 must come from areas with brown sand judging by its amazing camouflage. Thanks for introducing us to this new species byron Ian

    Extreme Cory fin damage.

Could be carrying eggs and being chased by the males.try a water change a couple of hours before dark and refill with water a few degrees cooler than what it usually sits at. Cory's spawn in the wild when the cooler rains arrive. In the morning Check for eggs near the water line at the top of...

    Which Corys Do You Have?

Yellow Cory's are great. They are forever climbing the stem plants searching for food, meaning I notice them up in the water a lot. The concolor Corys are like dinosaurs, with their plated armour and corydoras gomezi are pretty much nocturnal,or at least mines are

    Cories dying again

Just put some sand into a jug,it won’t come out,and pour it over the area intended.sand is heavy and won’t float out a jug or a bowl. Corys do much better in cold and acidic water,a heater set to 20/21 isn’t far wrong.A good push on the water from a powerhead also helps as corys like a flow,and...

    Red alert weather warnings

-38 degrees c,that seems reasonably cold to me😂. Seriously, the met office deals in shade temperatures,so the 40 degrees predicted is shade temp. It’s nearer 50 in direct sunlight.I got a message from a workmate today to say it’s 66 degrees on a slated roof he is repairing, and I don’t mean the...

    Red alert weather warnings

    rotala not doing well

Potassium is a great nutrient too, especially for anubias so adding this along with iron could make a big difference. Seachem potassium is dosed at one cap full every 100l,so about three and a half caps will be enough, and dose every 2-3 days,or depending on plant density.
