Avel never the less happy they are and as said breeding well, I prefer 20-25c but every year I have to spend my days in the cold weather and yet I survive ok.

    Nearly new to aquarium life

Yes pretty close 😜, we’re back off to states for a fortnight next year staying with friends in Pittsburgh. Everyone has their own ideas on how a tank should be kept and ok some things as a basic rule need to be adhered to. We don’t overstock so tank is never on a knife edge and needs all...

Yes I agree if taking them from the wild, however they are bred in captivity and as such have adapted to differing water conditions. If they were not happy and content then they wouldn’t be breeding so prolifically lol.

    Nearly new to aquarium life

Hi BLK and welcome back to the lovely life of aquarium life. My wife and I do a diff approach to most here and have purely natural tanks, no chemicals used plenty of plants and no water changes EVER. We feed the fish max twice a week and not too much I must add, so we force the fish to be fish...

LOL, I hear that!!!! I have spare filter and heater tucked away in the drawer that all manuals warranties are stored. I do the same with the business I have a new spare 4.5” grinder and chop saw in case one breaks I can continue. Old saying is if it ain’t broke don’t fix it!! And it is true in...

    Share my tanks

Very tidy and well laid out tanks........peaceful to the enth degree for sure. I assume you prefer order in life hence the plastic plants? Imho the more natural look of real plants that grow and move in the flow not only enhances any tank but is also beneficial to the tank and fish in general. I...

    Best filters discussion

Heck you didn’t have much luck with Fluval it seems, had ours six months now and yes you have to pull it forward to get to filters and that is fine for me. Mrs said was hard to clean so showed her easy way and no more moaning lol

Help with 6 week old fry

Doing some research most carnivorous fish including bettas will hunt for the green hydra if you cut down on their food.

    Holiday mode?

Hi all, ok the wife and I are planning on maybe two weeks away in the motorhome in October and it has dawned on me heck the fishes!!!! So I know such items as automatic fish feeders and holiday blocks exist, what do you guys gals do for a fortnight with no one popping in to feed them for you...

Help with 6 week old fry

The problem as I see it with the smaller tanks is that due to the size any changes of water quality is virtually instant and as Kribensis said......I have never bred Or kept Bettas. So if they are dropping like flies then something in the tank is killing them or they are so stressed they are...

    Best filters discussion

We personally prefer the fluval (u) range of filters as we can swap water flow from aeration to blasting onto the bottom for half a day prior to filter change day (Sunday’s) then any crud building up gets sucked into the filters and cleaned out when swapped over. It all depends upon your setup I...

Help with 6 week old fry

What size tank and what setup have you got? A pic would help for a start. I am a firm believer in don’t change too many things at once or you stress the fish out.

Returning to the hobby after a long absence

Well any decent make of heater would be ok in reality, I’d go for 100w myself or a 150w as then if you do get another tank it would suffice a larger tank

Returning to the hobby after a long absence

Tiberius welcome sir, you do know that just one small tank is how it starts? That little tank magically grows in a month or so to a much larger and the original tank will be a brooding or quarantine tank....ahh ok but now I need a tank for yadda yadda yadda. ?

    Dying Fish

Hi Calbrown, it may be down to how fish were transported or bags they were in, who knows. Mrs bought 8 mollies 4 black 4 white....2 white died within 2 days no rhyme or reason.....other six breeding and happy as hell. It may have been something as simple as ammonia spikes due to so many fish...

To Gourami or not to gourami?

Hi Colin, I was chatting with the main guy at acres my local aquarium place and he suggested pearls as they are very hardy and being bred mostly in captivity they are mostly used to harder water now than their natural cousins in the wild. So will it make a diff if they seem happy enough to breed...

    Planted Guppy Tank (54L)

I’m having other prob my tank upstairs I used a calcium based medium with some fine sand mixed in for the plants then I cycled it using some fish food tabs to start the ammonia off and checking water of course the water is hard but all else is good....but plants barely grow and I’m using iron...

Hi Mizz go girl go.....I just feel like breaking into song (under the sea under the sea) ? very impressive setups you have laid out. Well you and your partner I mean. Stan's freshwater 240 gallon extravaganza. Trials and tribulations of a sunlit aquarium

Your plants are amazing I just started a new 20gal tank upstairs and have started the liquid iron weekly to see how they like it. I do feel a well planted tank is the key to it looking great

    Clean hands?

I very much doubt that if you have rinsed well that any concentration of hand sanitizer or soap would or could effect the fish, however in this modern day trending of hand creams and moisturisers that may create a problem.

    TANK OF DEATH......

Having read back I did like the UGF’s and must admit that when we got this tank for £20 all in we looked but could not find any large enough due to them being phased out I guess. Like anything if you do not run it properly it will fail in one way or another. So we keep the filters unclogged but...

    TANK OF DEATH......

Our tank has begun....All natural no chemicals.

Natural process of the plants and biological filtration, also small water changes every couple of weeks (water left over night to naturally dechlorinate) neither the wife or myself have ever gone the chemical route and it works if you do it properly. Minimum changes and allow tank to settle back...
