    fry protection plants

Hello! As my livebearers have turned into huge goliaths, less fry are surviving to adulthood. I'm wondering if plants would help to protect my fry or would I have to separate them? and if plants do help, which ones should I get that can grow in medium light levels?

    Jonah's aquarium question

alright, sounds good. usually shipping here is a lot so it's more of a last option (east coast to far west coast here in cali) yeah, I will definitely contact my lfs! they have a fish request which I'll try to do again or I'll wait until i have set up more tanks so I order more fish, and the...

    Solar pump recommendations?

Hello, wondering if there is any pond pump that you guys use that runs for a long time without breaking down? Preferably solar. I had 2 cheap ones that just stop functioning in like a year, and there's not enough sun for it to run in winter.

    Jonah's aquarium question

Hello! I just finished building my greenhouse and would like to put some cold-tolerant fish in the water used as a heat mass. Some fish there really catch my eye, and I'm wondering how much it usually costs to ship from there?

    Future Species from Invasive fish

i think they will in some way! many guppies introduced to other parts of the world are vastly different in coloration. maybe tilapia aren't as colorful but it is especially present in guppies

    American Flag Fish Winter

Hi! I recently acquired some of these fish, and they’re currently in an unheated tank with some wild guppies. I’d like to move them outdoors, but it is too cold currently, so I hope to do so next year. I’d like to move them in with my other fish in my 75gallon, however I add heat to that tank...

    Very timid betta

hi! I have more updates! Thanks for the reassurance. He’s looking a lot more perked up now, and he’s starting to get darker in his body which is cool to see. I’ve trained him to eat food dropped from my fingers now too!

    unheated greenhouse fish ideas

I have some guppies, xiphophorus, rasboras, pearl gouramis, and characodon. the tank is not super stocked, only a few of each except for my school of rasboras. The conflicting info is that all sources online other than sellers say that they are peaceful, but for some reason the actual retailers...

woah, that's one of the most beautiful rainbowfish I've seen! Love the fins. I will try to look for them in the LFS, as I don't have enough time and effort for online buying for now okay, that sounds like a good plan. do you think the rainbows will be fine with the other fish in my tank? I've...

I plan to experiment with Rainbowfish, but if they start slowing down when it gets cold, would it be okay to move the ones who don’t handle the cold that well into my 75g community tank? there are small guppies, female pearl gouramis, swordtail, and characodon in there

oh, and something else, as you can see in the photos, his fins are missing a little bit, weirdly curled, and also not very flared out like other photos of veiltails that I see. Will he eventually gain the strength to look like this? or will he just stay as he is?

Yes! Those horse troughs look too silver for me but I really like the shape of them. Maybe there is a stock tank that is black and not silver. I'll also check home depot and lowes, since those are significantly closer. I have kept those before and the district is wonderful! My current outdoor...

I havent tested yet, but I'll test as soon as I can. If this gets worse, I'm definitely going to use antibiotics! Thanks for the training tips! I will start doing that and hopefully he will learn to eat dropped food!

okay, yeah, I will just leave the ponds uncovered in order to have more humidity. I mostly built the greenhouse for my Nepenthes, who is suffering becuase it's way too dry here, and has outgrown all of the strange humidity contraptions that I have made for it. alright, I might pass on the...

yes, he had a black head when I got him, but it has gotten more vibrant over the days, the black parts on his body are starting to clear up though, I'm thinking that he is going to have blue/black head and yellow body once he fully recovers. The algae is some algae that I have "controlled" in...

    unheated greenhouse fish ideas

It's very dry here like 15% humidity, and I will leave the window open in the day time for humidity control, as I would like a lot of humidity to remain in the room for water conservation. If that is not enough I will definitely consider a dehumidifier! yes! We barely have any small fish...

okay, I have giant pads of fine filter foam and also packing insulation that would be good for this. I will think about those! I can test my strain of outodor wild guppies with the tank, and if they start to slow down I'll just bring them back. the sailfin mollies are not native to CA or not...

lol I’ll make sure to do that first thing in the morning! Yeah! I’ve never saw anything like this one either, and to think it was on sale for 1.50 okay, I used river rocks for the substrate, and made sure to add lots of plants from my other tanks

Hi, I will be having two 27gallon large tubs, or maybe an even bigger one 40+gallons in my greenhouse for temperature regulation, and I’d like to keep a few larger fish in there (as in larger than a swordtail, not monster fish). I'm in a very bipolar part of zone 9b, and the coldest it gets...

    Vampire Crab mystery

Hello! Recently, my vampire crab(s) have been active and is almost always outside when I check the tank. However, I only see one crab whenever i check (a lot larger than when i bought it). Peaceful fish for a guppy pond

the guppies I have were raised in neutral water, as they were planted in my ponds for mosquito control and were bred locally. I imagine the GH is pretty high though since our tap GH is pretty high, and I also have sand as a substrate. I will look into sailfin mollies! I recently found some...

Peaceful fish for a guppy pond

Hello! I have a decently sized wild-guppy pond, half of a large wine barrel. Half of the tank is a dense rotala, hornwort, and random roots forest for the fry to hide in. Is there any larger or just centerpiece fish that could live with the guppies and not attack the fry?

    Tannins keep coming back!

Hello! In my small paludarium, water is designed to flow through the land part into the water. Even after changing the water multiple times for almost half a year now, the tannins...

    Is this platy okay?

okay, that sounds good. His fins don't seem to be rotting, he was in rough shape from being nipped by the other fish earlier, and the color has not grown back on the new fin. (He is also losing some spots of color on his dorsal fin which hasn't been nipped)
