Vampire Crab mystery

Hello! Recently, my vampire crab(s) have been active and is almost always outside when I check the tank. However, I only see one crab whenever i check (a lot larger than when i bought it).
I'm wondering if there is a possibility that the other crab has died months before?

No weird smell, shell or any remains in the past few months.

I don't know much of anything about crabs but do you have any caves? If so it MAY be possible that the crab you see killed the other and pulled it into a cave to feed.

The crabs have definitely dug their own caves in the soil! That could be reasonable, or the crab just died and the other crab took it back and ate it.
