    Fast killing ich?

Ok, I purchased some ich specific meds, but my question now is how likely can it cross to another tank? I have a 25 gallon yo yo loach tank, the only things that get used between both are the siphon and the bucket to refill water. Should I preemptively treat the yo yos too?

    Fast killing ich?

So then does that mean it could have come from the loaches, despite not having any visible spots?

    Fast killing ich?

I have a 40 gallon planted aquarium with 1 angelfish and 9 rummy nose teras. About a week ago I added 3 banded loaches (I know, I should have quarantined them but didn't). It's been established for about a year. Yesterday I did a routine 5 gallon water change (I change 5 gal every week, and 15...

Snails and plants thriving but fish dying?

Yes sorry I typed the nitrate/nitrite in reverse. As far as the ph those are just the reading when I test the water every few days. If I understood what I read earlier, it sounded like too bright of light could cause rapid ph swings throughout the day. I thought about it some more and realized...

Snails and plants thriving but fish dying?

I'm at my wits end. I started up a 30 gallon freshwater tank a few months ago. Took several weeks to cycle with live plants in it. Finally was testing at 0 ammonia, 0 nitrates, and 0-5 nitrites consistently. Added 6 fancy guppies, two weeks later 6 dwarf rainbow fish, and two weeks after that 6...

Opinions on Canister vs other types of filtration

Live plants will be simple stuff like Amazon swords and what not. So far for fish I've decided on 6 yoyo loaches and 6 dwarf neon rainbows, possibly something else at a later date.

Weird material in new, cycling tank

Also probably goes without saying but definitely do not put any fish in there, they will all go belly up within a few hrs. Again, know this from experience (I was a dumb 16 yr old).

Weird material in new, cycling tank

But did you boil the gravel at any point? Artificial gravels like the colored ones will let out a hazy chemical type of stuff if exposed to heat. I know this because years ago I rinsed some in very hot water and the hazy film stuff came out of it when I filled the tank.

Did you wash the gravel with hot water?

Opinions on Canister vs other types of filtration

I've recently decided to set up a 36 gallon tank I've had sitting around for a while. I'm thinking about getting a canister filter, which I've never had before. I see a lot of mixed reviews for them and was curious what your opinions are. Is there a brand to stay away from in particular? I'm...

    Treating Betta with Popeye

I have 20 gallon divided Betta tank, about a month ago one of my Bettas developed popeye in both eyes, however more severe in one eye. 3 weeks ago I moved him into a heated 1 gallon tank and have been doing 50% water changes daily. The less severe eye has looked better for the last few days but...

    Questions about planted tank decor

I recently set up my first planted aquarium, I intend to add shrimp eventually after its cycled and established. I'm curious as to wether or not petrified wood is ok to use as a decor piece? I soaked it in treated water for several days before adding to planted tank, but I'm wondering if this...

Issues with treating betta fin rot

Yep, I think some of the suppliers have some serious issues going on right now. The LFS that I've bought several bettas from, one of the main reasons being is because they keep there bettas in emaculate conditions (as they do all there fish) recently received a shipment of bettas who all had...

Issues with treating betta fin rot

I would use caution with doing complete water changes every day, as this can be very stressful to the fish and one who is sick this will be exacerbated. If the medication you used before was an anti-biotic only, I would get an all inclusive one for you next treatment. Especially since it didn't...

Issues with treating betta fin rot

As Colin said some betta tails are naturally frayed, but you said his are getting worse? I assume you mean more frayed? He looks healthy otherwise, eyes bright, fins not clamped etc. When did you first aquire him? Where his fins frayed at all then? Watch him as he moves around and his fins...

    Aquarium Tank Reviews?

I don't think the op was asking about tank kits, so much as he was just the tanks themselves. I dont particularly have a brand of take I prefer, although most of mine are by aqueon, they have always been good quality, last forever, but don't carry the hefty price tag like others do. I like...

    Am I overcrowded?

Yes, I would say it's a bit overcrowded, especially since the angels are young, when they reach full size the rule of thumb is a minimum of 20 gallons per angelfish.

    Cory catfish chasing Molly

Yes, you should definitely get 1 or 2 more cories, they are schooling fish and enjoy each others company. I have 7, and it's fun watching them play with each all other all day. They are somewhat "spirited" and 2 of mine will now and then playfully chase one of my large angelfish around. I know...

Input? Angelfish suddenly very aggressive after tank cleaning and decor change

As I stated earlier, I test the numbers at least once a month not just after a water change. I only tested AFTER this time because of the issue. I understood what he was saying I just didn't agree with it. I have had the two males for nearly a yr and a half and this was the first issue they've...

Input? Angelfish suddenly very aggressive after tank cleaning and decor change

Ok but if I test the water parameters routinely and they are WNL, the water is clear, and my fish always live longer then the average lifespan, then common logic would say "if it ain't broke don't fix it". They are not living in a disease ridden pool. You keep going on about the ammonia, but as...

Input? Angelfish suddenly very aggressive after tank cleaning and decor change

I do use a vacum cleaner, isn't that part of what a partial water change is? I change the filter cartridge monthly and check ph and such as well and my tank is always sparkling clean and numbers are on point. What i mean when I say an annual cleaning is that i take all non living decor out and...

Input? Angelfish suddenly very aggressive after tank cleaning and decor change

I'm hoping someone can shed some light on my problem: I have a 39 gallon tank with a school of 7 cory catfish and 2 large male angelfish. Everyone has been living together for well over a year, quite peacefully. The angels were introduced to each other already full grown and never fought even...

Lone Cory wants more friends like him

Corys are schooling fish so a group of at least 6 is ideal, which is more then ok in a 55 gallon. No they don't need to be the same type. I currently have 7 with 5 being different types and everyone gets along quite well.

    Hello all from CA

I used driftwood in my tank before and quit because it was too much trouble getting it to not tint the water brown, but that's purely just my taste. if the water has a good current it may be best to forgo the betta. Have you considered adding more corys? They are a schooling fish and quite a bit...

Is my betta injured or sick? white spot, red spot, some gold

The gold your seeing is a disease known as "velvet" it is often fatal if not treated. DO NOT continue using any type of metafix bettafix etc, these are actually toxic. I can not recall off the top of my head what medicine is needed, but if you google "velvet disease betta" it should pop up.

I need help with my betta.

In nature bettas are not the pretty colors that we breed them to be. Which gives them a natural camouflage, they still like to have that. Also I think the original problem got sidetracked. Healthy fish should eat, and spitting out food can often indicate disease. Since he was recently aquired...

I need help with my betta.

Well I've had more then one betta who very much enjoyed the mini pots. As for live plants yes they are ideal, but not everyone does well keeping them alive and if the start to die then they pollute the water. Which is why I mentioned moss balls and silk plants

I need help with my betta.

Moss balls are great, I have them in all of my tanks. They are impossible to kill lol. As a bit of a betta addict I've noticed over the years that bettas really do love to have tank decor that is a similar color as them. Probably provides a sense of safety. Try getting some red silk plants, and...

    New to forum

New to the world of fish forums. Got back into the hobby a couple of yrs ago. I currently have a 30 gallon setup with 2 large angelfish and a school of corys, as well as 2 betta tank setups (lost my favorite one last week when I forgot to put the lid back on and he flipped out of his tank...
