Then why yell at me for trying to get info to keep our fish alive and as happy as we can for a sanctioned college research project with proper government research permits if you aren't against scientists research?
We're pre-medical and pre-veterinary students, and our research professor is a...
Yeah, and oddly the males seem to leave the females alone, they kinda hang out on opposite sides of the tank, its like the males like the flow from the filter and the females don't or something, I was going to get another female or two in a different color, the blue was all the store had, I...
Don't you see the potential favour this could do for wild fish though? And I'm asking questions to keep from harming the fish, our goal is not to hurt fish, but to bring about a change. We want to prove that it's doing something to the water that is harmful to get safer measures put in place...
I'm removing the Rams the first week of october and bringing them home to throw in the 40 with the others, the female is now being harassed by the male, he's probably been the unseen issue the whole time, they will be gone before the guppies should drop, then I will just have the 4 guppies and 2...
If I did daily water changes and bubbled it, could I keep maybe a dozen guppy fry in a large tupperware? I bought guppies for my tank at college knowing they would breed, bought virgin blue-tailed females and some interesting shiny baby-blue and purple bodied males with blue and orange tails and...
So, this may sound a little strange, and even awful to some, but at my college we have a start-up research project on fish and how the fracking industry and how untreated mine drainage effect their growth, development, and breeding. We're looking into using mosquitofish, as they are easy to...
I figured that'd probably be the case, it took me a while to figure out why she wasn't eating, he'd never chased her while I was watching until very recently. I was blaming the poor corries for being the curious little guys they are and bothering her. Unfortunately I'm no where near SC or I'd...
My established rams tend to change colour with mood, mine go pale when stressed. Stripes in mine are generally when they are territorial or when I first turn the light on in the morning they always show. Mine go from bright blue and gold with a bright black spot to flat dull yellow in two...
I have a ten gallon, four guppies, 2 corries, and two rescued GBRs (were going to be flushed by dorm mate who was moving to a no-pets appartment) the female hasn't been eating, it's been almost 2 weeks now and she's thin and pale, but the male is as gorgeous as could be and is one of the better...
Okay I'll check for frozen when I go to the store then. And the pH stays about the same, so I guess it should be okay?
Strips, I had liquid tests for a while at home but they were always a pain, should I switch back to them? And no, I haven't changed the media or anything, just threw in the...
I'll be saving up some money to get a new tank for when I get out of college, I have a love of bottom/middle dwelling fish and I want to know if there are any kind of tanks made for these fish? And if there is, where can I get one/about how much do they cost?
I only ever buy fish, with an exception of my guppies, from a fish specialty store that will feed a tank if you ask them too and has a definite quarantine time before fish go up for sale. I'd never buy at a store that didnt have some option for me to see how the fish act.
I like less brightly...
I love my harlequins so i'll back that up, I have a school of a dozen in my community tank and they are the most active little fish you'd ever see. Softwater is liked by them though
When I started I had, guppies, platies, and swordtails and the like. But I have hard water. For soft water try some neon tetras or other inexpensive tetras. These type of fish are generally small, like schooling, and colourful :)
Is there any way to keep Rams and guppies happy together? The water around here is super hard, mining towns are great for that, so I use a mix of dechlorinated tap and distilled. I can possibly or freeze dried depending on what the store has, I'll look into it. I can't really upgrade due to the...
I got two GBRs by accident while in college, one of the other girls in my dorm was moving to an appartment that didn't allow any pets, even fish, and was just going to flush the two young rams she had since she had already given most of the smaller fish she had away. I saved them. I have a pair...
