Be careful that the snail you get is actually bridgesii. I got one a few weeks ago and it was actually canaliculata, labeled incorrectly at the pet store. :angry: It ate all my plants. :crazy:

My nitrates are very low also. The liquid nitrate test can be tricky because you have to shake the reagents well before adding in addition to shaking hte tube before adding the second reagent... at least in the test kit that I have. Could this be contributing to "no nitrates?" LIve plants...

Feed them before you go using whatever method you use. Fry are wonderful scavengers. Are they released in the tank? I am pretty sure they will be okay for a few days without food. Mine are.

I don't know anything about MelaFix. Personally, I would do a 20% water change from teh bottom of the tank each time before you add meds. This will get rid of a good portion of hte parasites hatching out of those cysts. THe meds reduce oxygen in teh water, so if you can, add an airstone...

When you do your water change, siphon off from the BOTTOM of the tank... this is where the free living stage (tomites) stay, on the bottom 20% of the water. I had horrible problems with ich but rid of it after weeks of water changes and meds. Good luck.

I hear they are very similar to guppies and can hybridize with guppies. I am very interested in them and can find none in local fish shops around here!!! Please post pictures if you get any... :nod:

I've also heard of something called SnailAway.

I have guppies, 2 mollies, and a bunch of trumpet snails. THey seem to have picked the algae off pretty good, I had a LOAD of it after I finished cycling. I say try the trumpet snails if you like the looks of them. Although I think the fish had a hand in it, too...

What are the various causes of flashing and flicking against things in the tank? Here are the things I know of, or are possible causes: 1) ich 2) overfeeding? 3) other disease? I just brought home 4 guppies yesterday and one is flashing. Another one is lethargic with slightly clamped fins...

undoubtedly your tank is still cycling, check the pinned threads and do a 30% water change every day to bring the ammonia down.
