I believe for that model you need to get replacement cartridges. That has the carbon in it.

I would say, Buy the tank. Let it runs its course on the nitrogen cycle. Then when you have the aquascape set up, reevaluate on what would look good. Or what scale of fish you want to proceed with.

A Black background would surely set off those colors. It will definitely compliment the red contrast. IDK where you are located but you can buy a black poster board and cut it to size for a $1 at walmart. I mean you can buy it and cut it yourself lol

They shouldn't they're a different breed I believe. Plus before all of mine died they did well and they coexistence were fine. I lost due to my whole canister filter change :(
