    What are the chances?

Had a massive female to male ratio when I had fry. Maybe 3:1? Had around 40 altogether, only ten or so male.

    Is a 123l (32.5 gallons) tank fine for a 3rd floor bedroom?

Yes, should be fine assuming you put it against a load-bearing wall. If you can jump on the space you want to put the tank without the floor feeling like it'll give out, it should be okay.

    Your Fish

Oh lol. It really is good to know the species of every fish you have, for future reference. From the description I'm assuming otocinclus or other small loricariid, could be wrong though since it's a bit vague.

    Your Fish

Tiny fish with sucking mouths? Could we get pics? To name a few, I keep plecs of different species, giant African fan shrimp, clown loaches, cardinal and rummynose tetras, and some others.

Are Apple Snails legal in the UK?

Not sure whereabouts you live, but the Maidenhead Aquatics I'm close to sells them. Since the ban was lifted I've seen quite a few shops stocking them.

Are Apple Snails legal in the UK?

Yep, recently the ban was lifted due to the whole leaving the EU thing.

    Musicians?

Used to play piano at a beginner level, mostly read from MIDI and Vocaloid files (VSQ and VSQx) because I can't read sheet music lol. Kind of want to learn steel pedal guitar/lap steel guitar, just to add it to the menagerie of really absurd things I can do.

    Artists?

Green phantom + Blue phantom plecs! Did these ones in the last few days since I've wormed my way back into digital art.

    Identify this fish?

What do you mean? Ambiguity isn't very helpful.

    Hello

Welcome! Would love to see the tank if you get the chance to take pics! What kind of tetras do you keep?

This might be better on the Tropical Fish Emergencies category. If you make a thread on it, more people are likely to respond. Alternatively, you could make a thread under one of the two cichlid categories. Sorry if this wasn't much help!

    Help me identify this fish?

This is what fascinates me. Humans have lived for hundreds of thousands of years, and yet we exist at the perfect time to see such incredible creatures right before us in a shop window. It's incredible, and you can only hope to see them in their natural habitat one day.

    Help me identify this fish?

Wow!! A freaky little feller, love the eyes! You've gotta let us know if you ever decide to get one in the future, definitely an oddball!

    Hello

Welcome! No worries about your English, it's better than the French a lot of us could muster up. Love the catfish focus, synodontis nigriventris are a very nice species to keep. Harmless, keep out the way of other fish, quite polite in my experience! Would like to see your tank(s) if you have...

    Clown Loach Survey

That sounds wonderful. I used to work at a Maidenhead shop, they just kept the plecs in the sumps at the bottom of the systems. Mostly commons as you'd expect, one big one (around 1ft) called Kong, used to love going in to see him in the mornings! Some really gorgeous ones in there. And yes...

    Clown Loach Survey

I'm aware, but thank you for the advice! As I've already said, they're still all very small and won't grow to full size overnight. I already have plans for a 6ft, since the feller in my profile pic will be packing on some pounds in the years to come.

    Axolotl tank mates

@OliveFish05 might be able to share some advice on axolotls and good pairings. I'm no expert either, but I wouldn't put oscars in with axolotls. They're pretty aggressive fish, and are prone to going after smaller tank mates. Not only this, but they're territorial by nature and don't take...

    Clown Loach Survey

I currently have 5 small ones in my 4ft, which is 2ft high. Had two for a couple months because the shop only had a couple at the time, but got another three today. Very tiny, only delivered to the shop recently, and are already so friendly towards the older two. The older two aren't big at all...

Yeah, we've been getting quite a bit more than usual this season, which is nice. Feels refreshing lol. But yes, could probably get a water butt or similar to collect it.

    Softening Water

It's impractical too, really. The next time I pop down there I'll get a look at the rates and see if I want to try it out before getting myself any new equipment. Parents will be mad lol Ah, a lot simpler than what my brain was imagining. So it's the sort of thing you do the day before your...

    Softening Water

I have no idea :(. Can't find a definitive answer from our water company and haven't got a test. My county is generally said to have some of the hardest water in all of the UK however, which as you can imagine is not ideal considering the fish I keep (listed below). Hoping to grab myself a test...

    Softening Water

Hello! This is a little overdue, but I'd like to ask for tips on softening my aquarium water. I almost exclusively keep fish that prefer softer water, and unfortunately have quite hard water. To improve the conditions of my tank, I'd like to soften the water. I'm not really a high-tech kinda...

    So sad

The video is not from the original poster. If you look at the YouTube channel, it's clear that it's a repost account. I would rather not turn this into a big thing because I really do think this will develop into an argument, as I simply don't agree with your use of the word "abuse" in reference...

    Hi

Welcome! If you're doing it by the book, you'll be reading an entire library's worth of books lol. Everything depends on the type of fish you want to keep, the tank you have, and the look you're going for! First thing's first, cycling your tank before you get into the thick of it, like...

    So sad

These are a category of random videos from platforms like douyin, TikTok, and similar. Most of the time, they don't involve fish. There's one where he rolls over in bed and a watermelon falls out, hitting the water which looks like a real floor at the start of the video. The randomness and the...

    Identify this pleco?

Ahhh, that's so wonderful. Blue eyed lemons look like such sweet little babies. Would love a blue eyed panaque one day if I get the chance. (Photo source here) What a beauty. Think that blue-eyed plecs look like Aaron Paul/Jesse Pinkman lmao.

    Changing substrate

Go ahead, use it as instructed on the bottle. Like @Byron, I don't personally use it anymore but it can be useful to have around in a pinch. Assuming your tank is tropical, I would hook a garden hose up to your sink tap and get it to roughly the right temperature. Once it's full, the heater...

    Changing substrate

Put the fish in a spare tank or large tub if you have one, and drain the water from your tank. It's the best way to do it - a full reset will just be better in my opinion. Shovel out the gravel using your hands, a big scooper, or other. Hose it down outdoors and do what you please with it...

    Fish Dying ?

The keeping plecs together thing isn't inherently true, depends on the species you have. Under the assumption that they're common plecs, they are generally fine when they are very young and small, but will become territorial as they get bigger. First thing's first, your water parameters. Do you...
