    Angelfish question

Would you know what this is? Doesn’t appear to be white spot/ich. Some are white dots, others look like parasites about 1mm in length. It doesn’t get any better or worse in the past 3-4 weeks. The fish is too active and eats too much to be infected by white spot. There's no flashing either.

Why is my wisteria dying in my pond

I'm guessing here, maybe around 30C? But then again, if your guppies survive OK, it shouldn't be that hot. Duckweed will grow like, weed :D

    Thoughts on my pond

Yes you can cover it. Bear in mind though, these inexpensive household cords are designed for indoor use only, there should be a warning sticker attached to it “For Indoor Use Only”. That’s not to say that it can’t be taken and used outside, but it should not be left outside permanently or...

    Thoughts on my pond

I don't have a pond so I can't offer any help there. The thing with extension cord is the potential electric shock when it's wet.

Betta has been dying for months, I’ve tried everything.

Fair point, they are human modified fish, but they aren't bred in glass jar with pebbles though! And they still have Splendens DNA.

Why is my wisteria dying in my pond

I'm just thinking the temp of the pond could be a bit too high during midday, higher than what the plant can tolerate.

    Thoughts on my pond

A very nice pond. One thing about the heater though, most (or all?) aquarium heaters are designed for indoor use only. You wouldn't want to use an extension cord outdoors either, at least not when it rains. Also, if the temp drops to 4C as you mentioned, it's not going to keep the water warm.

Why is my wisteria dying in my pond

What are the temperature and pH of your pond, similar to your tank's?

Betta has been dying for months, I’ve tried everything.

If you decide to get another betta, I suggest that the tank is properly cycled and provide some plants so that the fish feels more at home. I don't think having a large tank is necessary as betta don't swim much, but having aquatic plants is important. Having said that, large tank will provide...

Betta has been dying for months, I’ve tried everything.

Sorry to hear about your betta. I'm not sure of the age of your fish, but most bettas live around 2-3 years. It's hard to say this, you've tried everything and I don't think anything more can be done to heal the fish. Just like us human, there's a time when no medical care could heal the...

Feeding fish while away on holiday

I'm not comfortable leaving for 3 weeks, but hey, if you've to go on holiday you have to go. I use Eheim fish feeders, work well for flakes (crush the flakes first) and small pellets, but only if you have many fish to feed and the feed opening is around at least 3mm. Another thing about fish...

    Bloated Betta

The fish is not having eggs. Although it’s difficult to tell why she's bloated, she’s in a very bad shape. Sorry to be a bearer of bad news, but she’s unlikely to survive. If the fish doesn’t eat it may be better not to feed as uneaten food would only pollute the water.

Thanks. I'll see if the Wide Range pH is available here. My high and low range pH came in the package with Ammonia, Nitrite & Nitrate though.

    Blue-green algae

As far as I know, blue green algae thrive in strong light in warm and stagnant water. They are everywhere here in summer in the wetlands where the flow is restricted. Have you tried placing an air stone where the problem is? It could take a couple of weeks before they disappear though.

    pH readings

Thanks everyone. Sample 2 is the one I have problem with as it falls between 6.8 and 7.2, but in the scheme of things it wouldn’t matter as most tropical fish are OK within that range. This is water from my tropical tank. @Essjay, @Steve2717, here’s sample 3 in high and low range (water from...

    brackish fish acclimating

I’m not an expert on fish, but my guess is that it depends on the fish, there’s no one answer that is applicable to all fish. Clarification on my previous post: Then add water from my tank (if water in the quarantine tank is 10L, add 1 litre) each day and observe the fish. Repeat the process.

    brackish fish acclimating

I’d want to know how more acidic their water is. A store once told me the pH of their cichlid tank water is over 8. When I got the fish home and tested it, it was 6.8 I didn’t dump the fish in my tank right away and the fish have now almost doubled their size. Would the fish survive if I had...

    brackish fish acclimating

I can't really help with making brackish water. But if the fish were raised in brackish water, be that in Asia or anywhere else, and if they don’t do well in freshwater, you’d expect them to be affected in the days or weeks while they were kept in freshwater in the LFS. As a first step, I’d ask...

Fish Losing all colour then die...

Some good news there :). Tetracycline should be dissolved (and crushed if necessary) in water first before pouring into the tank, otherwise it'll just sit there. All the best.

Water chemistry confusion - fish suffering. Please HELP!?

In this scenario, without seeing the tank in person it'd be difficult to make suggestion. Did you mean the ammonia is 0.5 ppm or 50 ppm? A slight ammonia isn't deadly if your pH is low, just over or below 7. If it were me, I'd sit it out and not making drastic change and not feed the fish until...

The plant will grow better without the pot, but I think the vigorous root growth will block the slat openings of the plates.

Water chemistry confusion - fish suffering. Please HELP!?

In relation to water change, if you intend to replace 75%, I suggest the following. You have a 300W heater plus a 200W. Rather than filing the tank up (75G x 75% = 56 Gallons?), I'd first replace it with 20 gallons, turn both heaters on, add another 20G around 2 hours later, and the remaining of...

    Hello

Bettas don't generally make bubbles unless they're happy, but then you say the fish is not eating. So I'm not sure what the problem is. I can't tell what the dots on the fish are, but if you google "Ich" and look at the images, you'll know what to look out for. If a betta keeps coming to water...

Fish Losing all colour then die...

I’d just enjoy the long w/e and not worry about the fish, if most of them have survived thus far most of them will be OK until Tues evening. I wouldn’t spend money on the horses though, keep it for the fish or maybe the dog and chicken :). My water is supplied by Gippsland Water, not MW, by I...

    Hello

Betta will drop to the bottom and hide if it's cold, I'd keep the temp between 22C (72F) - 25C (77F). The next thing I'd do is check for Ich, the white spots on the body. I can't see the spots in the photo though. If you apply Ich treatment, make sure to remove carbon filtration from the tank...

Bolivian Ram Large White Bump Growing on Fore Head (Pictures Included)

Thanks for the post. That was exactly what happened to my ram a while ago, needless to say it didn't survive. API General Cure is not widely available in Australia, so if anyone knows of equivalent medications by Blue Planet or Aquasonic I'd love to hear about it.

    Fish dying within 24 hours

By floating the bag in the tank, you're equalising the water temperature only. You may like to check the pH and GH of the water in the bag and compare that with the water in your tank before releasing the fish. If the difference in pH and/or GH is too great, the fish will not survive. Search...

How to get rid of this algae and what is it?

Welcome to the forum. Am I correct in assuming that it's a brand new tank and has been running for around 1 month? I had algae problem with my new tanks, may have something to do with silica leaching from the glass. I aerated the tank using air stone, the problem went away after around 3 weeks.

Fish Losing all colour then die...

Keeping fish should be enjoyable, sorry to hear about your experience. With regard to pH, if there’s an item in the tank which causes it to increase, it will only increase to a certain figure, it doesn’t keep increasing. My water is also soft which is good for a number of tropical fish. To...
