Crack in new tank- please answer ASAP

Cracks, like bad news, never get better with time. I would use the tank as a reptile habitat. Another idea is a paludarium with very limited water. You could even put a tub or some kind of container within the tank to contain the water and plant around that.

What’s going on with my turtle?

Is that Pink Belly Side Neck? It looks like either a shed spot which is not a problem or some sort of fungus which is a problem. How long have you had the turtle? What do you feed it? What size tank does the turtle live in? Is it the only inhabitant? Does it have a basking area? UVB...

Jaguar Cichlid (4M) - doesn't seem to want to eat

Yeah, that is true up to a point. But every species has a 'comfort zone' and your fish will let you know what that is over time if you closely observe them. You mentioned the tank is 4-years old, have you had the fish that long? If so, again, I would carefully examine what has changed...

Jaguar Cichlid (4M) - doesn't seem to want to eat

I recommend several partial water exchanges. Do one every other day if needed. Fresh foods will probably help too. Do you normally keep the tank at 80-degrees? One other suggestion is to closely examine what might have changed within the tank or with the life support equipment.

Should I continue to use this as a tank stand?

Is this post for real...really? We have this exact table and use it to tailgate at the beach and football games. If the post is real, then yes, you need an aquarium specific stand for a 55-gallon aquarium. The risk of failure, especially if there are any children around is unimaginable.

Best sponge for 10 gallon with chemical filtration? QUIET Air pump?

I went to the link. I am not familiar with that brand or style of sponge filter. What I mean is, I have never used a sponge/chemical filter combination. I can't tell from their pictures or video if the vent at the top is removable. It shows that it can be rotated along with stem but not...

Best sponge for 10 gallon with chemical filtration? QUIET Air pump?

Have you already purchased the sponge filter or are you still shopping? A picture of what you have or will get will help me determine which parts you will need to make the bubbles less noisy. I really should do a column for this site on how to accomplish this.

Best sponge for 10 gallon with chemical filtration? QUIET Air pump?

I use sponge filters in all of my tanks regardless if they also have HOB or canister filtration. Sponge filters are amazing. You can search this site and find causes of brown algae. But in my experience, it is mostly caused by overfeeding, poor water parameters and also in new tanks. A sponge...

    Nontraditional tanks

I have stock tanks too. They are really versatile. I have an 8-foot red mangrove growing in one. Also, there are submerged, emersed and floating plants such as Amazon swords, water sprite, water lilies, Anubias, java fern and jungle val. It is so easy to propagate plants in a stock tank.

    Tank stand info

Your tank should always be supported completely around its perimeter. Are you looking at a wrought iron stand that will not allow the tank to be supported completely around the perimeter? Or are you looking at a solid wood (not particle board) stand that is larger (in all dimensions) than the...

How can I vacuum a 75 gallon tank close to floor level?

Could you siphon the wastewater outside say, into your garden? All you need is a long hose. It works, I've done (and do) it very successfully.

    Ich-y questions

The ammonia reading indicates a major problem with your water quality. The illness of your fish is probably a byproduct. Healthy fish can develop all sorts of illnesses when exposed to prolonged poor water conditions. How many fish do you have in there? Regarding your water temp, it is not a...

Struggling to get a jbl proflora co2 professional set m system working

Hopefully, someone who has this system will help. I made all of mine in the past and can't specifically help. But until someone else helps you, here is what I would do: Disconnect the cylinder and make sure it flows. The I would carefully check to see if the lines are properly connected...

    dead plants and cloudy water

In a well-established tank, the cause is usually debris from decaying plants (as you mentioned), dirty substrate, or a really dirty filter. I would cautiously proceed and not make any radical changes. It looks like you have a canister filter based on the hoses in the background, is that...

Please see my euthanasia thread in beginners

I actually posted on the other thread. They are not long-lived fish and most have such a horrible 'childhood' that I would let the little guy live out his life in its comfortable home that you have provided. I personally have experienced what you are going through, many times, and it is...

    Keyhole Forest

What a creative idea! As a side note, something caught my attention on the left side (outside) of the tank. It looks like the splash mat is buckled up and it also looks like there is a gap at the center of the tank. It might just be an illusion. If not an illusion, a glass crack could result...

    Fads

I remember purchasing a 'miracle' under gravel filter. The box said, with this filter, your tank will never need a water change again! Oh boy, I just had to have one and then a rotten egg smell developed after a few months. Plant roots mixed in the filter slats and gunk made for a nice mess.

    Advice on selling aquarium

    Tank smells of eggs

Is it an egg smell or a rotten egg smell? Sulfur dioxide (rotten egg smell) is from decaying vegetation, dead fish, dirty substrate or filter. Something is out of balance in your tank. Have you smelled your tap water? Does it have that odor? Are you using a different water conditioner or...

Crayfish/lobster type that doesn't need shallow water?

BeckyCats, think about what you will see when walking in from a long hard day's work. A vivid, Colbalt Blue crayfish (or Yabby), with claws gently moving back and forth like in a line dance begging for a treat! The magnificence is barely indescribable. Bait food? Naw, no way. Rather, it will...
