Thinking Of Going The Sanded Route?

I used the caribsea product and it is bloody expensive. However, no rinsing required and it is packed wet and live and claims you can start introducing fish after 24 hrs. I was very sceptical about this but bought it purely for the look and the fact that it didn't need cleaning. Having said...

Do Moonlight Leds Affect Algae Growth

I currently have two 39w T5's and an increasing stag algae problem. So in my intimate wisdom I decided to reduce the T5's to 6 hrs a day, and use the soft blue LEDs in the evening. Now I am not sure whether this will continue to contribute to my algae problem. Can anyone offer any advice

Thread & Stag Algae - High Phosphate?

Hi, I add 20ml Easylife profito fert every week. I will cut back the lighting to 7hrs per day and maintain low intensity moon lights for evenings. Do you think I will have to go down the CO2 route to get rid of this problem?

Thread & Stag Algae - High Phosphate?

Hi DrRob, unfortunately the tap water is high at 2.5ppm. Original aquarium fill was with tap water, weekly PWC has been with RO as the tap water was 14 GH and 8pH. Tank is now too low at 5 GH and 6.2pH. So I would like to change to alternating weekly PWC of tap and RO to raise these two...

Urgent Help Needed To Stop My Fish Been Killed

This is great help, thanks. One more question, should I keep the male with nest until the fry come out of the nest then remove him, as I have heard he takes good care of them then starts to eat them. I am thinking that if I remove when the fry are free swimming, I can then feed myself

Urgent Help Needed To Stop My Fish Been Killed

Last night I noticed the my male dwarf had built a bubble nest in my 200 litre planted tank. This was hampered by my...

Can You Get Higher Toxins At Lower Levels

    Hard Water?

RO (Reverse Osmosis) water is passed through a permeable membrane under pressure to remove ions and larger molecules, giving a very pure pH neutral water. You can buy this from good a good LFS or buy home systems but they are quite costly.

    Hard Water?

I perform my 10% weekly water changes with RO from LFS at £4 for 25 litres. GH came down from 13 to 7, and now alternate between RO and tap to maintain. I also add Mineroll weekly to supplement vitamins and minerals taken out of RO water.

Does Live Substrate Live Up To Claims

Well I am very surprised at the results. In summary, I dosed ammonia for three consecutive days commencing 7th Jan and tested after 24hrs each time and got zero readings for ammonia and nitrite, and 10ppm nitrate which I believe is in the tap water. Based on these results, I introduced 6 zebra...

Does Live Substrate Live Up To Claims

I posted on here recently regarding caribsea's live substrate. The general consensus, myself included, was that this was marketing BS...
