just spent the last few hours completely changing my tank layout. i felt it had become a bit like things were just chucked in so ive tried to make it a bit more natural looking... ive also done it in a way to give maximum swimming room for the angels. what do ya think?

praecox rainbows can be very sensitive though dave. probably more than cardinals, they are one of the only rainbows to thrive in acidic soft water if i remember right. where as most others do like it more alkaline. i had a group ages ago that died off with no apparent reason, they are greak...

as far as im aware there is no inline anything that will fit the FX5. 16mm is too small to fit the pipework on the FX5 so im not sure how you mean to connect them all up? :unsure: what filter, heater do you have that you want to fit onto the FX5?

i dont think the cooler liking paradise fish would enjoy the higher temps that the GBR would require so i woild say they were a bad choice of tank mates tbh. possibly a bolivian ram and the paradise fish might work but even at 26-27 degrees C the paradise fish will be at its temperature limit.

bolivian rams are much better in larger groups but they are pretty chilled for cichlids. getting 2 would be a risk that 1 would be bullied, personally i would get 4.

ross at oddball express uses rapps supplies at his shop if your interested and in the area.

filament barbs would be a great choice for tank mates. also consider arulius barbs, they dont get as big as the filaments but are very active and beautifull when adults.

there are normally a few pieces in our classified section of the forum too at decent prices. buying second hand as with most things is usually much cheaper than lfs prices

i have the arcadia lights and they are very good but not cheap initially. they are meant to outlast T8 tubes by 3-4 times though so once bought wont need replacing very often like the tubes do :good:

have a look at ND aquatics. they make custom tanks that are normally much cheaper than the branded tanks like juwel, rena etc etc etc. excellent tanks but you just get the tank and cabinet if you choose their cabinet that is. no lights, filter, heater etc etc but these can be bought through...

so are pressurised co2 or expensive dosing of carbon my only options of keeping plants alive in my tank? are there any low co2/low tech plants available that will be ok? i dont mind adding ferts but cant see how it would be possible to do pressurised co2 on my set up and i dont really want to...

looking at the 2 pics together the issues seem to be different in appearance the bn is much more white and the L200 was milky/clear ish.... im guessing that the L200 had the initial issue and as it wasnt quarentined :blush: has passed it onto the bn, maybe in a dominance battle where the bn may...

a while ago i added an L200 to my tank and it went all scabby eventually got sunken eyes and died. not long after this i noticed by BN had a similar issue. it seemed to get better without any treatment but its worse than ever now... im currently setting up a treatment tank for it but im unsure...

my only concern about a pressurised canister is wher i would put it. my cabinet is full of FX5's and with 2 young kids running about i wouldnt want to put it next to the tank.... i guess i would need a decent sized canister otherwise i would be changing it too often. also with my ND tank there...

i would without a second thought go for Bolivians over gouramis. Keep it south American.

with 3 x colombian tera 10 x cardinal tetra 2 x dwarf gourami (Red Dwarf Gourami/Powder Blue Dwarf Gourami) ? x red wagtail platys 2 x bolivian rams ? x shrimp this i squite a lot for a 2ft tank. maybe forget the platys and up the tetras to 6 of each and i would be tempted to leave out...

dont get me wrong i have mail ordered fish in the past but only species i cant get without a mamouth drive. ive had mixed results with it too. the fish you want are very common and should be available pretty much anywhere and to me its not worth paying £16 ish for delivery of them :good:

i almost said leopards or penangs of some kind... as i said its been a while since i had discus and there are so many new strains. all you can do is keep an eye on them.it sounds like you have done everything right so far so fingers crossed they will see you good in return for your efforts...

mail ordering fish can be a bit hit and miss tbh. firstly you cant see which fish you are buying, you may get small or large, dull or colourfull.... i always prefer to choose my own. secondly, you cant see if the tank or occupants are heathy. any sign of infection/disease and i leave well alone...

there are quite a few different adapters available, are you sure you cant get one to fit?

thats quite expensive for bolivians... dont you have a lfs you can get to?

i know picture never show a fishes true colour, or they dont for me...., butthey still look quite dark to me. after a month they should be settled and hierachy sorted. what strain are they or were they sold as? turks? there are so many these days since keeping them ive lost track :blush...

i would go for bolivian rams rather than blue rams. bolivians are more matched to the temperature required for the other fish blues require higher temps and soft acidic water to thrive. bolivians are much easier to keep and much less of a headache. also very stunning when mature.
