    My Pond

I don't care if the loaches are in the picture, I  just want pictures or video of the entire pond. It sounds awesome.

    Can Someone Hold My Hand?

You beat me to it!    Archers in and of themselves aren't terribly difficult fish to keep but they do have special needs and the main one is quality brackish water.

Where Have All The Hedgerows Gone - 30 Litre Opti-White

But that's why we're all here! To share and/or gain knowledge. I've learned so much over the years and every now and then have managed to help someone else.  I really enjoy when member like SuperColey1 make posts like this. He didn't just post his tank, he listed the fertilizer, plants...

Where Have All The Hedgerows Gone - 30 Litre Opti-White

Very lovely. Thanks for sharing. That brightness of green is my favorite thing about a planted tank.

Can Cherry Shrimp Lose Their Colour?

Shrimp do lose their color. This can be for a few reasons.    Disease (including poor water parameters/quality) Poor diet Nearing time to molt The last one is the most common. Shrimp get very dull in color just prior to a molt.

    Returning Old Man

Welcome back. Glad you have time to visit. Livebearers are likely the most popular group of fish in the hobby so it's nice to have someone hanging out who knows so much about them.

    Which Live-Bearer Do I Want?

Molly do very well in brackish water and in many of their natural environments some species will readily move in and out of totally fresh to brackish conditions. They can breed in fully marine salinity. They don't need salt but I've found they do thrive in it quite well. Use a good, but...

Yes, probably a result of the update to your browser.

    Emoticons

If you don't see an editor that looks something like the below then your browser isn't displaying it. There can be several reasons for this such as security settings, the age/type of browser, etc.

You use the smile button in the editor. It brings up a list of the them to pick from.

It looks like a large mass of snail eggs.

    Ants!

Remember that the only way to get rid of a colony is to kill the queen. You can't do that with methods that only remove the ants that you see. If they are attracted to the water source, or food dropped on the floor etc. they will keep coming until the queen is good and done for.

    Ants!

There is a great ant killer I've used many times. I learned about it when I worked as an exterminator long ago in another life. It's called Amdro. You can pick it up at Home Depot.  It works because it's little crystals you put out. The ants take them thinking they are food and feed them to the...

Estimated Filled Weights Of Common Aquarium Sizes

Aside from substrate there are aquascape. Plants, liverock in a reef tank, stones, etc. Not all sand is created equal either. Some sand can be silica based, and other sand can be calcium based which are going to have different masses. The materials that compose sand differ based on location...

Estimated Filled Weights Of Common Aquarium Sizes

And not all substrates are created equal. By volume they might displace a gallon of water, which weights around 8.25 pounds but if the object has a higher density then it could actually be adding weight even thought it's removing water.

    Fighting Blue Gouramis

How big is the tank? I've been successful in reducing aggression by creating territorial zones. But this can only be done if the tank is a bit on the larger side. If you are having a smaller tank then I would suggest re-homing both.

Estimated Filled Weights Of Common Aquarium Sizes

As you can see above there's a reason we don't have a ready guide. ;) It's not as easy as it seems. We hardly touched on water displacement. The weight of the water displaced can sometimes be more or less than the weight of what is displacing it since it's volume that does the displacing.

Estimated Filled Weights Of Common Aquarium Sizes

It only goes up to 210 gallons so beyond that you are just guessing unless you can know the glass weight. This is also glass tanks, not acrylic.

That's why I like the PDF, it has empty and full weights listed.

Estimated Filled Weights Of Common Aquarium Sizes

This document is a good start: http://www.aqueonproducts.com/assets/011/19107.pdfI use it all the time. That's how I knew my tank was around 3000 pounds and I used it when judging what size to put upstairs.

Help Plants Seem To Be Rotting

I guess I still need a lot more information...ha...should have just asked it all to start with.   How old is the tank? What fish are in it? How big is it? What lighting do you have? Are you running Co2 for the plants or just ferts?   I think that covers it...

Help Plants Seem To Be Rotting

Do you have them in a substrate designed for plants or in gravel?

I like to use Hikari betta food with a couple of blood worms each week or some mosquito larvae.

    Crab! Help Id

There are hundreds of species of small crab so getting a specific ID is often impossible.    For many reef keepers all crabs are bad. I don't follow this thinking but if you want to be on the safe side this guy would be better off in the sump if you have one or in its own tank.    One main way...

    Finally I Found Some

Fun. Nerites don't mind fresh water at all. My understanding is they just can't breed in it.

You can dose ammonia do keep the bacteria alive.

At What Point Does Copper/aluminum Become Toxic To Shrimp/snails?

This is actually a pretty tough question for two reasons  Shrimp need some copper, trace amounts. Just like humans use hemoglobin shrimp use copper to carry oxygen in the blood stream. So zero copper is harmful but too much is deadly. Just how much is too much depends on the invertebrate. Size...
  35. Chad

    Hospital Tank Setup How To's?

No. The bottom dwellers will be fine with a glass bottom. It's smooth so won't irritate them. They will also hide in the PVC.

    Is This Cycling Length Normal?

No, that isn't normal. Check out this article for details on cycling. http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?/topic/421488-cycling-your-new-fresh-water-tank-read-this-first It might provide some clues as to why things are dragging on and what you can do about it.

    Hospital Tank Setup How To's?

Exactly. This tanks is about curing the fish and separating it from the others, not about looks.
  38. Chad

    Hospital Tank Setup How To's?

I think so, that and a little PVC for them to hide in.
  39. Chad

    Hospital Tank Setup How To's?

If you are treating a fish for an unknown illness you pretty much have to get rid of items that are likely to harbor the illness/fungus/bacteria/virus/parasite otherwise you risk it returning. Many of these things have dormant periods where they can survive. Some don't, like ich, it really needs...

    Spontaneous Generation Shrimp?

I'm not sure what the Um is for Jake. Betta don't hate anything colorful. They don't do well with define conspecifics or fish with similar morphology but but in my experience color isn't much of a trigger for them.
