My Diy Background-- Having Second Thoughts....

You really hit on why I just paint the back of my tank or leave it alone. A display like that will collect detritus and when algae grows on it you won't be able to scrape it off.    It seems like a lot of work to go through to not use it though. Perhaps don't glue it in place so you can remove...

    Sump For 90 Gallon.

Not braces on the floor of the building, the floor of the stand itself.

    Sump For 90 Gallon.

The rule of size for a sump is to pick the biggest size you can fit into your cabinet and still work with it, and clean it. If you can't get broken or dirty equipment in or out because it's too tall, then it's not the right one even if it fits. So if you can fit a bigger one, then go for it...

    Sump For 90 Gallon.

Does that price include everything? Meaning tank, baffles, and installation of the baffles? If so then that's a good price. Most of the time you will bring the tank and pay around $45 bucks just to for the baffles and installation of the baffles.

Can Fish Be So Intelligent They Become 'boring'?

You're right of course! After a reread I realized I got it wrong.  Carry on!

Can Fish Be So Intelligent They Become 'boring'?

Well, to be honest, my first thought is that this is impossible. A betta cared for in the most exceptional conditions lives on average of 5-6 years. In normal conditions 3-4. In lab conditions one has been recorded at 10 years. If you started your first fish tank 3 years ago and the fish just...

    Sump For 90 Gallon.

The nice thing is that you can get tanks for cheap. I just waited until PetCo had their $1 per gallon sale. Then you measure what you want for baffles. You can decide to either do glass or Plexiglas for it. If you do glass just take the measurements to the glass shop and they will cut it all to...

    Sump For 90 Gallon.

I know if it were me I would just ditch it and get a tank and custom add the baffles. I purchased my first sump, hated the restrictions of having something pre-made, and ever since then have just made my own using a tank, or in the case of my 210 gallon, 2 tanks.

Welcome to the forum. We've only recently installed Tapatalk so I'm glad you came across us when you did.

    Sump For 90 Gallon.

Looking at how it's configured you will have it enter where the pipe is, it will flow through then the return pump will be on the other end.  Where the water comes in is where you are going to have higher flow. This is where you would put media that needs to be pushed through like filter pads or...

    Sump For 90 Gallon.

Yes, same concept as marine basically.  You can fill it with media if you like, ceramic etc.  As far as plants you would need a light on them of course but something with roots is good, that grows fast. Amazon sword or a val would work in there.

    Sump For 90 Gallon.

Using a sump is the same in terms of the mechanics of it for fresh or marine.    This video might help some. What you put in the sump for filtration can vary. Personally I like the idea of using live filtration. In my marine tank I use algae, but in a FW you could use fast growing plants to do...

I removed that for you. People were not using those status updates wisely so we turned them off years ago but the result was that the last status remained.

Excellent! You diagnosed it right and treated it right. Now that she's eating I'm guessing she'll recover quite well.

How Much Substrate Should I Buy For A 75 Gallon Aquarium?

It's probably a slight difference in shade but I'm just guessing.

How Much Substrate Should I Buy For A 75 Gallon Aquarium?

I have to agree, I hate flourite. It was a mess to deal with, didn't facilitate planting at all, and quickly needed replacing. I never used it again.

How Much Substrate Should I Buy For A 75 Gallon Aquarium?

For planted I like the Fluval substrate line. But it does need to be replaced periodically.

How Much Substrate Should I Buy For A 75 Gallon Aquarium?

It depends on what you are wanting to accomplish and what you are keeping in the tank. I used only 20 pounds in my 75 gallon reef. I wanted it shallow. I had 300 pounds in my 210 gallon. But, I have 10 pounds in my 14 gallon. Each has a different set of livestock and care. The 14 has a sand...

I'm New Need Help With A Biocube's Lighting.

The kit you list is for accent lighting. I doubt it has the power necessary to really do anything meaningful in terms of growth in the tank if you are going to do plants for FW or corals for Marine. In my case I ditched the hood. I have owned two BioCubes and just find the hood holds in heat...

You guessed it correctly as cyanobacteria. Either that or the lighting is playing tricks on the photo.

    Floating Plants

I love the look of duck weed on the surface but it just causes too many headaches. That's why I started keeping frog bit, which I love because of it's medium size. Water lettuce tends to get too large for me. However, I can't argue against it's beauty, and usefulness.

    Floating Plants

The azolla I'm familiar with  is a fern-type plant.  What I'm talking about probably does have a different name, not sure, but it has the same look of frog bit. Here's an image I took off of Google.

    Floating Plants

Frogbit is my favorite, and there's a red variety that's lovely, but you are right, it doesn't do well under all conditions and does require some effort.  Water lettuce is another good one to try.  Of course there's duckweed but that's pretty much going to take over.  Another option I've seen...

    When To Intervene?

My general rule is to remove if 1. leaving might harm the other fish or 2. if the sick fish isn't eating at all. If a fish won't eat, I've found they don't survive. Though others my have had different experiences I've never had a fish live once it stopped eating.    Harming the other fish can be...

    Acclimating New Fish

I don't acclimate my fish all one way or the other. There are some fish that go right into the water when I get home. Others get floated then dunked and some get a slow drip acclimation. There are several factors that go into it so I make the decision on a per fish basis including what species...

    Sponge Filter

Crayfish are fun. They were one of the first things I kept as a kid and that got me into aquatics as a hobby (tadpoles was first) and gave me a lifelong love of things with claws.  Crayfish will be fine in gravel. If you want a more natural behavior a soft sand or silt bed with some large rocks...

    Sponge Filter

Cycling is going to be the same process. You just need to make sure your sponge filter is large enough. I don't know if you can get Hydro-Sponge Pro Filters where you are but I have found them to be a good brand. Hikari has a good brand of sponge filter called Bacto that is well made as well...

So Proud .. Now It Is Going All Wrong Help

I got the idea from an experiment that was performed on the reef forum I admin on.  http://www.thereeftank.com/forums/f6/daily-water-change-experiment-179577.html   The results made me consider that daily water changes, even though small, can have a great impact on a tank.

Let us know how it goes. I have a 14 gallon that looks about the same as yours. It's pretty common really. My tank is newer but still the same cause.

So Proud .. Now It Is Going All Wrong Help

Just based on the looks of it this is likely a bloom of bacteria. This can happen when there is a spike in the nutrients they like. Depending on the type of bacteria it could be ammonia, nitrite, or nitrate which are the common food sources.  The spike can come from extra food, or extra fish, or...

So Proud .. Now It Is Going All Wrong Help

Cloudy water is generally caused by a bloom in bacteria. Which isn't a bad thing. Given time it generally subsides in a few weeks. During that time increasing the frequency of water changes is recommended.    When you change filters you run the risk of removing beneficial bacteria so just make...
