    Newbie here!

I'm so sorry. A restart of the 10g will be good, might be fun to redecorate it a bit.

    Strange "Mini" Platy

Ok, I'll start the deworming as soon as I can get to the store and pick up the meds. Thanks everyone for the advice!

My fish died after one dose of Triple sulfa

If there were others in the tank with the one infected, they are at high risk of being infected too. Do a 75% water change and a gravel clean every day for a week. Wipe down the sides of the tank with a clean fish sponge. If the filter hasn't been cleaned in the last 2 weeks, do so now. It might...

    Fish having attachment

Hello! I came across this article about a fish's ability to create attachment to things and remember people. I'm not sure if this is all true but its neat to think about for sure. I've heard people say that they couldn't get into fish keeping because it isn't as rewarding as a more...

How long does API general cure stay good for

I think that the expiration date is the amount of time that it takes the meds to start becoming inactive at the very first point it might start deteriorating. Theoretically, the meds might and likely are still good after the expiration date but I don't recommend using them, just in case. But...

My fish died after one dose of Triple sulfa

I recommend doing a 75% water change, clean the gravel very thoroughly, and wipe down the glass with a clean fish sponge. Add carbon to the filter to deactivate the meds. I recommend doing a water change every day for a week, but that might be overkill. Also, were there any other fish in the...

    Guppy + Air Pump?

Yes, even though it might help them, it is not needed.

    Planted, filterless Shrimp bowl

Oh wow sorry I didn't see the nitrite levels. That's so awesome! I have heard that amazonia soil can produce ammonia but as long as your tank is cycled it should be fine. The extra ammonia will help the bacteria multiply even more, gives it plenty of things to feed on. Exited to see the future...

    Fish That Lives With Guppy?

I recommend keeping platys with guppies as long as you have at least a 20 gal tank. Guppies do well in schools so I recommend at least getting 5 together and keep the male to female ratio of about 1:2. Same with the platys. However this all depends on the size of your tank and your willingness...

    Newbie here!

I'm so sorry, fungal diseases can come on quickly and take the fish in a day or two. It sounds like you gave that fish a great life and I'm sorry this happened. The best course of action now is to do those 75% daily water changes/ gravel cleans, and the new water needs to be the same temp as the...

    Strange "Mini" Platy

Hello everyone! So I've had this fish for about a month now. She (at least I'm pretty sure it's a she) is very small compared to my others. She also just swims in one place almost all of the time and rarely moves. The other platys stay together and swim around together but she just stays...

    Guppy + Air Pump?

If you mean like a hang on back filter, then yes. Also, would you mind sending a picture of your tank?
  16. Neleono

    Guppy + Air Pump?

An air pump is not essential for a guppy, but one attached to an airstone might be good. It increases the aeration in the tank which is defiantly beneficial but unless its a big tank, then you should be fine without one, as long as you have a good size filter.

    Sick betta?

Mrsjoannh13 is right. The betta is likely just old. If you got him from a store like PetSmart or Petco, or even a local fish store, bettas are mass bread and sent off to them. This causes most of them to not be in the most pristine quality when we buy them and they don't often last long...

    Newbie here!

I'm not sure pimafix is the right medication, never used it before but when using any meds its so important to quarantine that fish. I saw you say that you had a cory in there and they are extremely sensitive to meds so an isolation would be necessary to keep the Cory alive. In the main tank, to...

    My Official Freshwater Journal

So sorry for your loss. I understand that those things can be so discouraging and sad. It's a good thing your water parameters are good though, however it might be important to find out the cause of death to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Ideas to improve my fish tank?

I love the tank and I can see that hardscape in the back! I recommend moving that big green plant in the middle to the side a bit so the rocks and wood are more visible, or move the rocks and wood forwards a bit and move some plants behind it. Other than that, I can't really say anything else...

How to have my live plants to grow?

I'm not super sure what plants you got but it looks like they are all root feeders. I recommend adding root tabs. You can pick them up from amazon or a local fish store (Ill add a link to the ones I use). Other than that, I would just say to keep your water stable and do regular water changes...

New gold mystery snail not moving

I just recently got a new snail for my tank and when I put him in, he quickly climbed one of the walls and didn't move for over a day! After that he was zooming around the tank like normal. I think it might be something to do with the snail acclimating to the new water parameters as some snails...

    I did a thing

I understand. I don't have a local fish store and PetSmart does nothing for me so I need to find other ways to get things. Luckily, living in Arizona, don't need to worry about the cold killing the things I order because it rarely gets below 10 Celsius, even in the middle of winter. That aside...

    80 Gallon, Lightly Planted

Haha! I had the exact same problem when I was putting together my 10g planted. I had tons of Java moss, a few Java ferns, and an anubias, along with some pieces of wood and I got so much glue on my hands that I was scared it might leave some sort of scar! Then I got even more on my hands when...

    Disease Identification and Treatment

At the time I thought the fish was pineconing but later I realized that wasn't so, just a lot fatter than normal, allowing me to see his scales much better than usual. He's been doing much better now, the swelling went down a lot, he's much more active, isn't being targeted by the others, etc...

What type of fish is this?

Sorry you had trouble with your local fish store. Those stores can either be super good or not so great, and they are uncommon so you are kind of stuck with what you have. I don't have a local fish store near me, there's one an hour away but its mostly salt water aquariums, but the local...

So, who is going to teach my baby embers to school? :)

Not sure about looking at the tetras for disease (I just take a few min per day looking at all of them closely to look for problems but I only have 6 so its a lot easier. However as long as your water parameters are very good and your fish aren't under stress they will generally be ok) but my...

    Planted, filterless Shrimp bowl

Wow, just stumbled upon this thread. I had seen your TOTM post and thought this was such a cool idea. Its so pretty and the aqua scaping is very impressive especially considering the fact that it is only a bowl. Great job and keep up the good work! Best wishes, Nele.

The super glue works great for attaching plants! It might melt the roots a bit but they will just regrow!

    Floating plants

I've had some good luck with water lettuce, I added it about a week ago and the mother plant has already made 3 other little plants! I don't even use ferts. I also don't have a nice light, and I have never used co2. I do have a small bubbler and they don't seem affected by it, and mine have been...
