    Angelfish not eating

I'd agree with trying live food. Is the other angel bullying him/her (I'd guess a him) maybe?

    I really need encouragement

Don't get discouraged. Have a look at nano fish, you can keep a shoal of these in a 10 gal. I would also say keep the 10gal, get a 55gal too. :) Oh and don't buy a bala shark, they are beautiful fish they can get to over a foot long.

VOTE NOW!...December 2019 Fish of the Month Contest (Angelfish only)

This is one of my male angel fish. There are two males and two females. The males aren't getting along so great which is why his mouth is a bit damaged. The other one is the same. The other male is a bit bigger but this guy has better marking so he got the nod for this competion. They live in my...

Can you identify which acara fish this is?

It's not an acara. Its a Firemouth (Thorichthys Meeki).

    Cheap and easy floating plants

Seems a lot of bother to go to when you could put some real floating plants in and get the benefit from them.

I'd guess the bottom one to be a convict. The top one, I haven't a clue.

    Is my guppy pregnant?

I'd be very wary of treating fish for any illness or disease unless you are sure they are infected. This seems a huge undertaking for what may not even be a problem.

What to do with this plant?

If you trim it you will probably be able to shape it into a more compact bush.

    Baby common goldfish

I've never seen a goldfish reach 12" I have a large pond and the occasional one will get to 8" including the tail, but most are 6" or less. In a tank they won't get to that size very often.

    Food for corys

I keep micro worms for feeding fry. I often put some in for my corries. I assume they find them on the substrate but microworms are too small to see on the sand.

    What up with plants?

Anubias is a marsh plant? It may grow in marshes but it's primarily an aquatic plant. Does best in shady areas in aquaria.

Angel's laid eggs in community tank

Small I'm afraid. Often they will eat the eggs themselves or the young when they hatch. The other fish will be looking for a quick snack too. My angels spawned in a community tank 2 weeks ago. I siphoned off a few eggs (8 or 9) and put them in a container that I floated in the tank. I added a...

    Otos and sids?

Fair enough. It said loach on your post so I wrongly assumed one loach.
  17. Munroco

    Otos and sids?

I don't see it being a problem, they won't be competing for food. You might be better with a group of loaches though, they are very sociable fish and are fun to watch a group of them, Otto;s do a job but they can be a fish that you rarely see.

Hello Fish Friends! First Timer dropping in!

Good luck with your tank. It is certainly big enough to add a lot more fish, but is it ready to house them. There are lots of posts dealing with cycling new tanks which is the best way to start. It needs some patience but its worth it. You may also see some stories about the advice people...

"Betta died because you cleaned the tank"

Rule of thumb, be very wary of taking advice from people who work in fish stores unless you know they are knowledgable. It is possible though that they are right in that your friend may have been cleaning out the filter and destroying that bacteria that live inside it and keep your tank free...

    Tank mates for Julii catfish

Have you looked in that ornament for your betta? He may have got trapped in it.He will certainly be dead regardless. That looks like a 3 foot tank? There are lots of fish that would co-exist with your Julii (which are quite likely to be Corydora trilineatus but are often sold as julii) If you...

Help me justify the set up cost :D

They wouldn't be my choice as I have softish water, but african cichlids might be an option. I've mostly moved on from cichlids these days but might be tempted to try a colony of shelldwellers.

    Feeding CPD

I've noticed that it's usually the males who look "bent". Presumably they just have a different body shape from the females who, in my experience, usually look nice and plump. I feed mine tetra pellets and micro worms. Like you I rely on the cleanup crew to look after what they don't eat.

Second hand tank. Used aquariums don't hold their prices well. You can pick up some real bargains.

    Sorry looking Amazon frogbit

Floating plants are commonly used for (amongst other things) taking up nitrates in the water column. Perhaps your new tank doesn't have enough nitrates to sustain them.

55 gallon with Angelfish, Cories, and Rummy-noses?

I think that combo would look good, but you could put a lot more fish than that in your tank once its established. I've been running mine with 2 pairs of angels, about 20 corries and a lot of tetras. I wouldn't necessarilly advise having 4 mature angels though as at times it can get quite rough...

    New guy question

Like you I had a break from fishkeeping for about 15 years. I got into it again about 7 years ago. I decided to use sand as a substrate as I like the look. Undergravels filters were also my norm. I've used a few different types of filter since returning, but apart from my Juwel 260 which has a...
