Thank you Charlie! I felt like I was being attacked for saying that a fish cycle was bad. It can hurt the fish but I never said it was the only way.

who ever told you that was wrong! try reading this http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?/topic/421488-cycling-your-new-fresh-water-tank-read-this-first   and find homes for your fish or they will die or you could try to cycle with them but that is hard.

After I updated to ios 8.4 it stopped working for me too

When they mate they can hold sperm up to six month so that means you get baby's for 6 months. Sometimes they want have them for 6 month but their is a good chance she will have them agin if she doesn't die during the berthing.

From experience......I had a gourami once that would kill all my fish he especially did not like platys and guppies. Or your female betta could be killing them (hints the name japanese fighting fish) . thats just a thought hope you find out what's killing them soon.

Ok, but I still wouldn't suggest going with a betta, you could basically get any live bearer or community fish. Maybe around 5-9 that would make a beautiful tank

First off that is a big tank for just one betta. But because of how bettas are you can only get one (you might could get two considering your size of tank). I would suggest getting a 10 or 5 gallon for your betta and using the 40g for other fish. With that size you could have a *school of fish*...

How long have you had the mollys/platys? Where I get mine they are not that healthy and can die from big changes.     Also I wouldn't suggest taking advice from large chain pet stores.
