You only need a ripple on the surface, no need for the water surface to be broken. A lot of members including myself inject Co2 into our tanks, and the O2 level is still more than adequate for fish.

Is the water flow in the rear of the tank less than the front? hair algea is usualy caused as a result of poor circulation IME.

Cant you chuck it in the bath? Or as said add some carbon or purigen, but soaking it in water will save a fair bit of money if you want clear water.

Take it out of your tank and soak it over and over again in hot water. Works everytime for me.

Well I have mine running 8 hours a day @ 1.5bps and the 2kg lasts around 5 months. The 5kg I have is yet to run out but should last over a year, if you have the space it is well worth going as big as possible IMO. Re filling wise a local FE company charges me £15 to re fill 2kg.

It will work, I have used a 200W Hydor with 12mm conections on 19mm pipwork using reducers. The flow was effected but apart from that it all worked fine, this was on a APS1000 filter.

The only thing I can say is that your sharks and Loaches will outgrow your tank, so maybe think about the long term and think about purchasing a larger tank to house the fish you already have.

What PH is your water and what is the GH if you know? Rams need soft water remember

Depends if you have other fish in the tank, I have been led to believe that parasites need a host (a fish) to feed off in order to survive. So if the tank is free of fish when the GBR does die the parasites should die off within a week due to being without a host to feed from.

Cool thanks, what test kit are you using to read your nitrates? Do you know what the PH level of your tap water is? also if you do not have a GH testing kit are you aware if your local tap water is on the hard or soft side?

Could you tell us what your water stats are? ie what is the PH, GH, Amonia, Nitrite, and Nitrate levels. I would assume your filter is fully cycled so the Ammonia and Nitrite should be at zero. Rams are not that easy to keep if you don't provide them with the correct conditions, and they will...

I assum you are using the 300W heater with the 19mm connections? if so your only option is to modify the pipes or use reducers so that the heater will fit.

If you fit the wrong size external heater your flow rate will be effected, better off exchanging the heater you have for the correct size one.

I dont know what bulbs you already have but my Roma 200 uses one Hagan Aqua-Glo tube and one Hagan Power Glo tube and the colors are great. Do you know what bulbs you are using?

Was the food you fed him fully defrosted? sounds like he may have ingested food still partly frozen causing him to die.
