Adding A Sponge To An Existing Charcoal Filtration System

Liquid test kits are better than the strips. Sorry I know that's not your question. As for the filter, what type is it? If you can fit a piece of sponge, that would be very beneficial.

Your water parameters seem fine. Could have been an infertile fish, or the parents could have just been eating the eggs, if they feel there is a threat they will often eat them. This allows them to regain energy to produce another batch of eggs quickly.

    Sexing Young Ruby Barbs

There is no real way to tell the sex, if they are that small. The best you can do is add more to the group and hope for the best. Really ruby barbs are one of the lesser aggressive of the barbs available, so you shouldn't have any real problems with them.

Black Skirt Tetra Claiming Centre Of Tank As His Own

Only in a larger group. Even then they generally setup some kind of hierarchy. The best way to curb the aggression is to introduce more skirts and add a threat, like your paradise fish.

    Centre Piece Fish

I think the bolivian rams would be the perfect choice. Kribs would be another good choice. Another fish you might consider would be a pair of paradise fish.

    Nannacara Breeding Tank Advice.

A few pieces of bog wood, and some almond leaves. Maybe some floating plants to cut down on the light. No extra filter needed. As for other tankmates, a small shoal of tetras, will make them more comfortable and better parents. No algae eaters or catfish, as they will eat eggs and fry. Hope this...

    Help For A Nervous Newbie

I have to disagree with you mate. Swords and crypts do much better with root feeding, than just what's available in the water. That's why I said they would do better in a fine gravel. Fish waste and uneaten food will work its way down into the substrate and feed the plants. Bunch plants on the...

    Single Kissing Gourami

Well the kissing is an act of aggression. Males do it to fight, females do it to fight, males and females do it to test each other for mate suitability. A lone kissing gourami will be just fine.

    Help For A Nervous Newbie

First off, just one species of gourami. As for substrate, some plants do better in gravel, swords and crypts come to mind as they are heavy root feeders. You can keep them in sand, you just need to add root fertilizer tabs, every now and again. Good starter plants would be; swords, crypts...

    Custom-made Dual Aquarium Stand Costing?

Although I can't help with supplies as I'm in California, I can tell you it would be much cheaper to build your own. What you will need is 2"x4" boards for the framing, and either plywood or mdf to skin it with. There are a couple of threads in the diy section showing how to build a stand. Check...

    Inlet To External Filter Idea

Most of the "nasty" stuff in the water, is in the top two inches, chemically wise. So even if you just put holes near the top, with just a few near the bottom, for detritus and continued water flow, it would be beneficial.

    Inlet To External Filter Idea

It will work, but if the water level drops below the highest hole, your filter will lose suction. Another way of doing it, is to get a piece of pvc, that will fit over your intake and drill it full of holes, 1/4" holes from top to bottom. this way if the water level drops your filter will still...

Existing Stocking On Second Hand Tank

First pleco looks like a common, second is definitely a bristle nose. The bn can stay forever, the common should be rehomed at some point. As for the others, The balas should be rehomed asap, so should the severum and the parrots. These all get large 8" + and they need much larger quarters to...

    Alternative To Rams.

Your flake foods are good choices. Adding live blackworms once a week, or live brine a couple times a week will definitely suffice. As for plants, I'm surprised they ate your anacharis. You could add swords, java fern and moss, anubias, cryptocorynes and vals . These are easy to grow plants...

Is It Bad To Want A Change?

As a former fish store employee, it's not unusual for parents to start a tank for their kids, then get addicted themselves when the kids lose interest. Depending on the species of silver dollar, the smallest tank I'd recommend would have a foot print no smaller than 48"x12". Some of the larger species need tanks at least 10'x3'. There is a fish called the discus tetra that stays small and would be fine. Looks almost like a silver dollar, but...

    Suggestions On Stocking 50g

10-12 tiger barbs, 1 color or mix and match, a group of six platies and 6-8 kuhli loaches. This mix would add lots of activity and color to the tank.

    Feeding

Just cut the amount you feed in half, won't hurt them. As for the ram, so long as its not losing weight, I wouldn't be concerned.
