About 6 months ago I took two kissing gouramis off a friend of mine as they were too big for her tank. Last week the smaller of them died :-(

I havent seen any ill effects in the other one so I dont think it was disease, maybe just old age - they are about 7 or 8 yrs old.

Anyway - my question - I now have 1 very large kissing gourami, amongst other things, and he/she seems quite happy but should it be on its own? I seem to remember reading somewhere that they should be in groups. I went to the LFS but the ones they have are tiny in comparison and will take ages to grow anywhere near big enough!

I am happy to either have him on his own or with others - just want to know what is best for his welfare really. At the moment he is happily following the silver shark that he was also rehomed with!

Well the kissing is an act of aggression. Males do it to fight, females do it to fight, males and females do it to test each other for mate suitability. A lone kissing gourami will be just fine.

its fine on its on the smaller one deafently died of old age keeps us updated what you do
