Ideal Filter For 280 Litre Tank?

Nice choice of fish :D.. The FX5 by itself would be perfectly fine, no need for an internal filter :good:

Ideal Filter For 280 Litre Tank?

Just realised your having a cichlid set-up (didn't see that part sorry) Which cichlids are you thinking of keeping? An fX5 would be ideal then if your going for a cichlid set-up as you say the larger the turnover rate the better.

Ideal Filter For 280 Litre Tank?

FX5 would be ok but it maybe a little to much for your size tank but any other larger external would be fine for your tank(fluval 405/305, teratec, eheim etc..) Seen quite a few people going for the all pond solution filters to, these are a lot cheaper but not sure how good they are.

    Hap44 Tankmates

Ideally other Victorian basin species, a lot of people mix them with malawi's too but i think keeping them with their own kind would be the better option.

    Killer Ram

Ok, I don't think its breeding 'harassment' then, just aggression towards the larger ram. Removing it would be the best option or if you want any breeding then buying another 4 to see if any pair off then remove the existing rams will be the best way.
  17. Malawi MaD

    Killer Ram

I think you may need to remove the one been chased as he/she may kill her. They do sometimes show aggression when breeding but not to the extent of constantly chasing the other. Does the one in the pic defend that coconut a lot??
  18. Malawi MaD

    Killer Ram

I think you may have 2 females, i can see that the dominant one has blue dots around the black spots on its side but it has the larger extended ray on its dorsal fin which usually means its a male.. The large sub-dominant one is definitely a female but the dominant one im not a 100% could be a...

    Nees Help With Cichlid Tank

You could just boil them, the more i think about it, i doubt there will be copper in shells in all honesty so i think boiling them will get rid of anything that could cause hard to your fish. Malawi's like to dig a lot so not sure they will be able to do so with the shells as substrate but it...

    Identification And A Little Advice

The Lombardio's and melanochromis species are known to be aggressive but as i said before each fish is individual. You can have any species that's a nightmare and dominates the rest of the tank. I do think The labs would be a good option for you as a first fish for your Malawi tank though, so up...

    Hello There

Welcome to the forum Lee. £20 for a 145L tank and stand is a bargain, filter wise you could go the external route they are always really really quiet. They just sit under the tank (in the cabinate/stand) and all you have in the tank is the intlet and outlet pipes :good:

    Killer Ram

You sure their 2 males and not a pair? The male maybe wanting to breed so hus aggression levels have risen slightly, or hes on the offensive because the other is a sub dom male.

Hi Tmiller. Well you have got Malawi (Mbuna) African cichlids (my favourite fish :hyper: Firstly the fish in the video are as follows, the blue with vertical stripes is a metriaclima lombardoi (Aggressive species).. The other blue with horizontal stripes is a melanochromis cyaneorhabdos...

    Cichlid Noob!

Hi Plecc That's the big decision, for your size tank id recommend a tanganyikan (african) tank as most SA and CA would need a larger tank as well as malawi cichlids (african) these ideally need a 4ft 50G+ set-up. Some apisto species and rams would go well in a tank your size too, they are very...
