    New Discus Not Eating

The sick Discus is eating bloodworm because thats all it will eat. As the food resembles a worm it seems even fish days away from death will eat it so this is purely why it is being offered. I don’t think I’m allergic to bloodworm though Im more often than not handling them with tweezers. I...

That's it, I give up regarding PH

This product will not work in his tap water. It is only for use in RO water that needs to be conditioned.

That's it, I give up regarding PH

KH is known as the PH buffer so if this is excessively high you will have issues changing the PH of the tank. I would recommend adding some Indian almond leaves to lower KH. I believe the peat moss you acquired only has a gradual and minimal effect.

    New Discus Not Eating

Just an update to say that the fish eat 4 bloodworms for the 1st time ever. It has excreted white poo so I’ve added metronidazole on top of salt treatment and 34 degrees C heat. I think the heat has stimulated it to eat. Will keep feeding it in this environment for another 3-4 days then put it...

He/she has not been in the tank very long which is why it is breathing heavily. I’ll see if I can add some plastic plants.

Tank crash - advice please! Also, sorry for my absence! I'm back :-)

I would personally drip acclimatise all the fish using the water of one of your cleaner tanks ASAP. If it is not practical to maintain the problem-tank its probably best to empty it and sell it. I am sorry about your depression. I think one less thing to worry about while you deal with the...

    Help with tank problem

You mentioned that the fish that survived were gasping which suggests hypoxic conditions (low oxygen). This can be caused where you add a new object such as bog wood or new filtration media that causes a reaction whereby lots of oxygen is used up. Did you add any new objects or filtration media...

    New Discus Not Eating

The fish has been offered live adult brineshrimp and any other food you could think of and it shows no interest in eating. Other foods offered include frozen blood worm, BCUK Discus food, pellets, flakes and crisps. The fish is in a separate 30 litre aquarium while I treat it so there are no...

    Betta Acting Strange

I once used one of these ‘instant cycle’ products when I was doing a fishless cycle and in addition to being completely ineffective it also stalled the cycle. As other posters have said, you need a heater to ensure the temperature stays at 78 F or above and you need to plant densely so the live...

That's it, I give up regarding PH

The exact same thing happens with my tap water. The carbonic acid escapes from the water over time which raises the pH. As such, my tap water has a pH of 7.4 but after 24 hours it rises to 8.0 as the carbonic acid as dissipated into the atmosphere. The way I have always got around this for the...

    New Discus Not Eating

Several days ago I posted in Tropical Discussions about how 1 of 3 recently added Discus had not been eating at all. Approx 10 days later it is still not eating any types of food including live brineshrimp, blood worm, BCUK Discus Food mix, pellets, crisps or flakes. It has consistently hidden...

    Tiny tetra getting bullied

I would try your own idea of getting some similar sized Tetras as the larger Tetra’s you have can dI’ve towards smaller fish which might be something that is stressing the smaller one out. Is she actually eating when she gets the chance to?
  20. mark4785

    GBR color fading

Something is probably fighting back or it is aware of something somewhere that is making it stressed. The black horizontal line shown on the GBR in your picture is evidence for this.
  21. mark4785

    ragged betta fins

If your tap water pH is between 6.8 and 7.2 you should just use that and use a bog standard dechlorinator like Aqua Safe. I would not used distilled water as it has been stripped of micro nutrients like magnesium and calcium which the fish needs.

    Pale and inactive Cory catfish

The test strip method of testing is highly unreliable. I would recommend using the API GH & KH testing kit. More information can be found here: https://apifishcare.com/product/gh-kh-test-kit .
  24. mark4785

    Pale and inactive Cory catfish

What is your aquarium pH level and what is your tap water KH and GH? If your carbonate hardness is 0 your pH will be changing wildly which is lethal. You can raise it slowly by adding 5 tsp of bicarbonate of soda per 50 gallons of water.
  25. mark4785

    Pale and inactive Cory catfish

Keep us updated. Unfortunately if it is on its side and also not eating it will die. The treatment is more a preventative at this stage in my opinion.
  26. mark4785

    Pale and inactive Cory catfish

You could always try it. I personally stick with what I know works well which is Myxazin. If it is laying on its side then it is probably too late. I take note you have another Corydoras in the tank so it may still be worth treating and cleaning the tank so it does not succumb to the same problem.

    Oscar needs help! Bad Popeye!!

I would recommend cleaning the filtration media and remove 80% of the aquarium water for 3-4 days everyday in a bucket of aquarium water to reduce the concentration of the bacteria in the filter media. As the Popeye is quite bad you need to source and use an anti-bacterial containing...
  28. mark4785

    GBR color fading

There could be some excess slime on the GBR or the fish may have voluntarily faded its colours in response to aggression from other fish. Corydoras are completely placid so will not be the source of the stress. The black horizontal mark across its body is a typical sign something is stressing...
  29. mark4785

    Pale and inactive Cory catfish

I have experienced these symptoms in Corydoras in the past. All the symptoms point to an internal bacterial infection. As this fish doesn’t fair well with bacterial infections I would recommend you treat the water ASAP with anti-bacterial medication. One effective product is Waterlife Myxazin...

    Fish, Local or Order?

I recently acquired some fish from Sims Tropical Fish via delivery. I think if you want quality fish it is easier to find the best online compared to trying to find the best in a single pet store. I've had so many problems with emaciated, lethargic, deathly looking fish from local fish stores...

    Unique Fish

    New Tank Additions

Its now 6 days in and the Discus described above still hasn't eat anything and it is almost froze to the same spot during the 7-8 hours that the aquarium light is on. There are no symptoms of disease though it perhaps looks slightly thinner than the others. What course of action should I take?

    Discus treatment HELP

I second what Colin has said. If you do not have plants in your aquarium or certain species like Corydoras, you may want to add 1 tablespoon of aquarium salt per 3 gallons to help with recovery too. Also, Discus can tolerate temperatures up to 34 degrees C so that is also a viable option for...

I have the NT Labs paramedic kit for dealing with lesions. Honey Gourami male aggression

I am happy that you found a resolution to this. Given that a bit of the tail fin has been nipped i would do a series of large water changes every day as rotting matter (especially from a fish) puts the inhabitants at risk of developing Popeye or other bacterial infections if they ingest any part...

Opinions on tik tok fish abuse?

Firstly, I would say that just because a particular western government alleges that TikTok are mishandling user data, does not mean that is actually the case. You only have to look at the history of non-Chinese companies like Yahoo and Facebook to get your definition of data mishandling and...

    New Tank Additions

Thank you. They can be generally easy to care for. There are some Discus-keepers that will portray them as difficult to keep due to the fact that they take it upon themselves to do 80% water changes daily with conditioned RO water. This is not a necessity at all. The only thing that sets them...
