You could always ask your local fish shop to sell you some mature filter media for your filter, change it over and do a massive water change (like 75/80% change) and keep an eye on your water stats from there :good:

It only seems small because its a corner tank, but it will hold 200ltr of water. Corner tanks are usually quite tall, quick makes up the volume of water a long, say 4ft tank would have. Very nice tank by the way!

What a difference a bit of black tape makes eh? So how long does it say on the bottle for the filter to be fully cycled? I'm glad someone's actually trying this method out and posting results. Well done and good luck.

How big a tank do you have? Plecs and silver sharks get pretty big. Like, size of a man hand big, and quite quickly too.

Tanks looking really nice. Why not just put a line of black gaffer tape round the edge to cover the water line? It's a quick fix for the time being. Iv done this with MANY tanks over the years :good:

I may be wrong on this, but I'm pretty sure they grow into monsters. Your tank may be just under the min tank size. It would be ok for a juvenile, bit is imagine it would quickly out grow it. G

Sorry, I meant running a pressurized co2 cylinder. I have a power head, dose daily with plant feed and have the lights on timed for 4 and a half hours a day. As far as I can tell, its black bush algae. About a month or 2 ago, I stripped the tank, cleaned everything and completely blacked out...

Cheers minnnt. I have a mix of fast growing and slow growing plants, but it seems to be all the slow growing plants that get the most muck on them, and bba, which tends to grow on slower growing plants. Would the input of extra co2 make any difference maybe? I'm going to strip the tank...

Currently, in my 55g tank, I am running a discus community tank, which is heavily planted, and needs a lot of time and attention, which, with my 2 jobs and 17month old daughter, time is pretty scarce. I am doing a 40% water change, with big clean, every Sunday, and a small 10% water change mid...

1st of all.... What a tank! You absolutely MUST share some pictures of that beast once its up and running. There may be more flaws, but the only thing I can see, is that your gourami may see shrimp as food, and tiger barbs might nip the fins of a gourami. But the tank is certainly bit enough...

If you have 1 (on the left) pointing out toward the front, then have the 2nd (on the right) pointing along the back, so that the water can circulate all the way round the tank. If they both point to the front, it'll cause a bit of a ripple, and probably a few dull areas at the back of the tank...

Well if you had that filter in your old tank, that had half the volume of your new tank, then sticking in an other shouldn't be a problem. The only thing I can think of, is that the current might be pretty strong. So of its possible, maybe turn the flow on each filter to a more gentle setting...

I would just go for an other ram, of opposite sex to the 1 you have already, and just see how they get on.

The bottom tank looks good mate, quite natural looking, some live plants would make it look even better :good: Top tanks a bit "out there" for me. Nice and colourful though. Look forward to some more updates :lol:

Iv always been a fan of gravel, fine gravel though, not the thicker stuff. I have fine gravel with smooth edges, and I think it looks great (but I would), and my corys don't seem to mind it either. But I have saw some fine looking sand tanks, it has to be said. Some lovely tanks. But its all...
