The Petco Bookshelf Aquarium: Prepping For Cherry Shrimp Colony

I think your quite right in NOT putting any fish in yet. But Yeh, I suppose your right, a few small fish won't make an awful lot of difference to water stats.

Nice find. It won't however, let me on the sight as I'm the only person On the planet who doesn't have a "dusch-book" Ah well, back to the drawing boards Edit: spelling (again)

    Help

You could always ask your local fish shop to sell you some mature filter media for your filter, change it over and do a massive water change (like 75/80% change) and keep an eye on your water stats from there :good:

    Jewul Trigon 190

It only seems small because its a corner tank, but it will hold 200ltr of water. Corner tanks are usually quite tall, quick makes up the volume of water a long, say 4ft tank would have. Very nice tank by the way!

The Petco Bookshelf Aquarium: Prepping For Cherry Shrimp Colony

What a difference a bit of black tape makes eh? So how long does it say on the bottle for the filter to be fully cycled? I'm glad someone's actually trying this method out and posting results. Well done and good luck.

The Petco Bookshelf Aquarium: Prepping For Cherry Shrimp Colony

Then your a more patient man than me. I would just be taking some mature media from an existing filter. Bit in the interest of an experiment..... it'd be good to see if these things actually do work or not. There's been a lot of talk about it but no actual written results. My hat comes off to...

    My 37 Gal & 20 Gal

That night stand looks like it was made for that tank, fits perfect :good: Nice tanks you have there too by the way. That tank you have in your room would look amazing packed with a massive shoal of cardinals! Especially with the blue light on. Very relaxing

How big a tank do you have? Plecs and silver sharks get pretty big. Like, size of a man hand big, and quite quickly too.

The Petco Bookshelf Aquarium: Prepping For Cherry Shrimp Colony

Tanks looking really nice. Why not just put a line of black gaffer tape round the edge to cover the water line? It's a quick fix for the time being. Iv done this with MANY tanks over the years :good:

Cant Decide On What To Do

Waw man, that is a pretty, good, in depth link. Nice 1! Cheers minnnt. As always :good: Will look at some prices to run co2, and will do as the link says, with the bleach and water. Will post updates as it gets done. G

    Green Terror Stocking Options

I may be wrong on this, but I'm pretty sure they grow into monsters. Your tank may be just under the min tank size. It would be ok for a juvenile, bit is imagine it would quickly out grow it. G

Cant Decide On What To Do

Sorry, I meant running a pressurized co2 cylinder. I have a power head, dose daily with plant feed and have the lights on timed for 4 and a half hours a day. As far as I can tell, its black bush algae. About a month or 2 ago, I stripped the tank, cleaned everything and completely blacked out...

Cant Decide On What To Do

Cheers minnnt. I have a mix of fast growing and slow growing plants, but it seems to be all the slow growing plants that get the most muck on them, and bba, which tends to grow on slower growing plants. Would the input of extra co2 make any difference maybe? I'm going to strip the tank...

Cant Decide On What To Do

Currently, in my 55g tank, I am running a discus community tank, which is heavily planted, and needs a lot of time and attention, which, with my 2 jobs and 17month old daughter, time is pretty scarce. I am doing a 40% water change, with big clean, every Sunday, and a small 10% water change mid...

    Fish Stocking 2.0 125Gal

1st of all.... What a tank! You absolutely MUST share some pictures of that beast once its up and running. There may be more flaws, but the only thing I can see, is that your gourami may see shrimp as food, and tiger barbs might nip the fins of a gourami. But the tank is certainly bit enough...

    Filter Question...

If you have 1 (on the left) pointing out toward the front, then have the 2nd (on the right) pointing along the back, so that the water can circulate all the way round the tank. If they both point to the front, it'll cause a bit of a ripple, and probably a few dull areas at the back of the tank...
  29. garyspence84

    Filter Question...

Well if you had that filter in your old tank, that had half the volume of your new tank, then sticking in an other shouldn't be a problem. The only thing I can think of, is that the current might be pretty strong. So of its possible, maybe turn the flow on each filter to a more gentle setting...

What To Do, What To Do?

I would just go for an other ram, of opposite sex to the 1 you have already, and just see how they get on.

To Sand Or Not Too Sand?

Iv always been a fan of gravel, fine gravel though, not the thicker stuff. I have fine gravel with smooth edges, and I think it looks great (but I would), and my corys don't seem to mind it either. But I have saw some fine looking sand tanks, it has to be said. Some lovely tanks. But its all...
