All items are less than two years old. I have had everything tested, twice and the conclusion is that each item leaks a small amount into the tank. I now switch off the power when doing anything major.

Here's the problem I have and posted some while ago So I was messing in the tank the other day and caught my wet arm on the overhead light unit and got a shock off of it. I spoke to an electrician friend of mine and he came today and checked it out. There is no problem with the lighting unit...

Cherry shrimp are a good start, they will survive with most small to medium community fish. Tank needs to be well planted though, if they are happy they will breed like rabbits.

Just checked my 405 and the nuts are part of the check valve.Thats the part straight above the canister If you go on your web link.. scroll down to 304,305 media and parts.... item Q on the drawing is what you are after I beleive.

lock nuts on a fluval are plastic nuts that thread over the pipe and screw on to the check valve connected directly onto the top section of the canister. Probably would leak without them imo. You could try using hose clips but DO NOT over tighten them.

I quite like the contrast of the rock, it will fade with time though. May be get some anubias on there.

smaller bore pipe = slower syphone rate.

plastic coke bottle with bottom cut off. fix hose to top with tape or similar. Done and it dont get any cheaper than that!
