Hi,

Some of you may have seen my recent thread on changing my current tank layout from a gravel to argos play sand. However, i have been persuaded by a couple of members on here to try Tesco cat litter.

I'm now seriously looking into this

My main concern is, would this base be suitable for corydoras? i'd love to get a little 'shoal' of them

cheers

Cat litter ? I have not seen any thing before on this one , can someone add to this one please ( i use sand ) . Thanks ..

II've read that some cat litter is a good substrate for planted tanks. No idea myself though if its too large for Cory

Yes, Tesco low dust cat litter is perfectly fine for cories. I use it in one of my tanks and they are happy. It's small and rounded and doesn't have sharp edges. Plants will grow like crazy when you use it, great stuff. :good:

Just click on the link in my signature "double rio journey" and you can see the progress from start to well middle as it is never really finished.

WOW!! your tank is amazing. You have sold the cat litter to me

i love the plants in this pic. I want all of these for my tank! especially the one in the middle with the bubbles behind

cheers!!

I,ve had no trouble with cories in the cat litter substrate tank I have, apart from one of the cichlids taking a dislike to them.

More pics for you. Ignore the algae, it was the reason I took the picture and resulted from a CO2 system failure.

Nice one!

At the moment i have:

6 rummynose tetras
5 black phantom tetras
2 lime tetras
3 silver tip tetras
1 common pleco
2 otto catfish
1 celestial dannio
1 zebra dannio
1 male guppy

I know that the tetras and the dannio should be in larger groups. They were until i bought some diseased platty which killed a lot of my fish. I'm wanting to get rid of the limes and silver tips, guppy and zebra dannio. Once these have been re-homed, i'll be buying 4 more otto's, hopefully 5 more celestial dannio and some cory's

Thank you for that one people . who would have thought and it looks good . :good:

Thanks :)

Why on earth are you exactly asking about the plant that I can't ID? ;) Know the names of all the others, but not that one. But I know that I got it in Pets at Home, if that helps. So weird seeing the old pics. It's changed so much, lush green everywhere. Bacopa reaches the top now and the floating plants are covering almost the whole surface. And the rest has also grown. Big pruning session this weekend.

I have used cat litter for about two years now and I keep cories without issue.

The only down side for me is that new plants take a while to get hold and if you have fish like clown loach stem plants stand no chance at all.
