If I were to use water direct from well.....

Oh I get it. I now know they should have lived much longer and also should have been in a much bigger tank. But like I said, I knew nothing of what I was doing. I did what the LFS told me. Each water change (which was not all that often) I added a ton of horrible things (ph up, stress coat...

If I were to use water direct from well.....

I suppose for now, I will ride out this ph as long as I have these shrimp and my nerite. I'm kind of obsessed with them, more so than fish at this point because they're so active and fun to watch. I suppose I haven't really been able to enjoy fish as I haven't had the proper water for any of...

If I were to use water direct from well.....

I'm sure it's just the crushed coral...i'm not sure I tested the water once I'd removed it, which was absolutely stupid of me. I did also add two small pieces of coral looking rock that I'd had in an old tank 20ish years ago (boiled to death before adding). These were pieces I tied some plants...

If I were to use water direct from well.....

I had actually taken it out while the boras were in there (and they all had passed as well as my sunkist shrimp). I only added back after I'd lost 5 boras and the shrimp as I got scared. I didn't realize they were much different? I only tested in the high range because the color blue in the...

If I were to use water direct from well.....

True and right now...it is, well...the ph anyway. (see below) Which makes me think I should go back to tap mixed with distilled? At least the PH will be closer. The tank remains stable thru out the week. Although it's probably being shocked during water change...I will test that tomorrow...

    Blue shrimp.

http://www.seriouslyfish.com/species/boraras-brigittae/ definitely look into these, they're are stunning little fish!....very little. A group of them would look amazing and you mention that you have blue shrimp... I can't think of a prettier color combination! Some green plants, red fish and...

If I were to use water direct from well.....

Mark, I'm totally wondering the same thing myself! I think tomorrow (water change day) I'll do 30% and see. Not that I have enough fish to tell if they're affected but ..... I'll give it a whirl. I honestly don't think I need to do 50% because my numbers don't rise as the week goes forward...

    Blue shrimp.

That's a tiny tank which will need tiny fish. It really depends on your water parameters: if you have hard water you can use endlers. If you have soft you can use chili rasboras. I've kept both with shrimp with no issues at all. The endlers and the shrimp are usually around the same size...

If I were to use water direct from well.....

Some time has passed and I've been doing my weekly 50% water changes with 50% tap and 50% well (removing the distilled). I moved into this as to get myself and inhabitants ready for a softer water fish. QUOTE="Byron, post: 3771119, member: 49218"]For a 6 gallon, I would suggest you stay with...

    Paroon shark swimming weird

OMG I sure hope you have the name wrong.... that should never be bought for an aquarium!!! They can reach 8 feet!!!! If you have that correct I'd suggest to immediately take them both back!!! That said, your stocking is very wrong. How big is this tank? Is it cycled? And what are your water...

    My sorority rebuild

I just think of what you can get for that amount... I sold my 47gallon bow front with the gravel, decor, huge canister filter, heater and all of the little things I used with it, siphon etc... (all things cleaned immaculately....totally ready for set up) ....... for 150. I used that to purchase...

If I were to use water direct from well.....

I believe that whole explanation falls under the "how cycling works and what eats and feeds what ...and for some reason my brain just refuses to compute that. Luckily I got thru the cycling beautifully thanks to this forum and help from you and others but God only knows what kind of fresh hell...

If I were to use water direct from well.....

whoops.....forgot this one: The reading of the nitrate is from the well water but apparently once it goes into my tank it dissipates or disappears...? I'm guessing my plants? And you are correct, my well is not treated with chlorine and also has a zero ammonia reading.

If I were to use water direct from well.....

Ok well I think I'm ok then as all other parameters have stayed the same. The PH is the only thing that rose....ever so slightly. I do have this and use to use it before you told me it wasn't necessary as (at the time) I had no chlorine, ammonia and or nitrate and nitrites in my water (using...

If I were to use water direct from well.....

I have a question about outgassing... will the water keep changing over time? I ask because I tested my outgassed well water yesterday after many weeks and it has changed from when I tested after about 3 days of outgassing. Every time I test my well water it is the same.... lowest reading on...

We had narrowed it down to the boraras brigitte yet I can't find them anywhere. Oddly an email came in yesterday about these: https://aquaticarts.com/products/phoenix-rasboras Seem to be all the same specs. I emailed the company asking if it were possible to request all males and they said it...

If I were to use water direct from well.....

Our plant chat made me feel like it was time to get in there and propagate some things. Oh and I wanted to tell Byron that I had reduced my light time by a few hours a day and it's helped a lot with the black anubias leaves! Also I cut it back some and it's no longer touching the top. Sad news...

    Fighter with other fish??

I believe they will get too big for the size of your tank which is under 10 gallons. Not to mention the current factor...as others have explained. Also the beta, as Byron explained beautifully is a solitary fish and doesn't like being with others. Even if you get a timid one and he choses not...

a little trick I learned here is to always view the test kit colors in daylight against white paper with your back to the sun. I stand with my back to my sliding glass door in my kitchen. It's helped me tons! Those darn shades in the API kits are so similar.

    Fighter with other fish??

I think you're pushing the limits of your little tank (which is adorable by the way) with those two catfish! And I would NOT add a beta. It's not fair to the beta, nor is it fair to the other fish that will be very stressed out by his presence.

    my betta sorority

Ha, I do this also...as my tank is just a teeny little 6 gallon so using a pump would be kind of ridiculous. And oddly as weird as I am about germs, that doesn't bother me in the least. At work (I run a salon) and customers often accidentally leave their water bottles on the desk when they...

Ah ha! Yes, that's definitely it! and yes to the blackish brown hairs!...they're out of control even thought there aren't that many leaves on the plant (but they are big). I've never seen the smaller leaves with bit of hair....but I will keep my eyes peeled for it now that I know that's how...

If I were to use water direct from well.....

This IS a crypt...right? Hard to tell here but I'd anchored it's roots onto a piece of wood (behind that hunk of spider wood). (there is also an anubias to the right and the remnants of an old amazon sword to the left). So this will most likely be my tell tale plant is water parameters go south?
