That's a head scratcher for sure. Are you only keeping neocardinia? Because if you have any ghost shrimp in there they will most certainly eat anything small enough that they can catch. I'm sure an Amano might also. And if any of your snails are Assassins they too will eat anything they can...

Sounds like a plan. If you do truly have very hard water and you plan to keep the neons you should look into mixing ro or distilled with your tap to bring it down to suitable parameters for the neons.

shrimp are very delicate and susceptible to even the smallest inconsistencies in the water parameters and trying to keep a tank that tiny cycled and consistent is very very difficult. (oh and yes I'd get a tiny heater and filter...not sure which for something so small....just google that...

shrimp only. that's if you can keep it cycled...anything smaller than 5 gallons is pretty difficult to keep cycled and maintain consistent parameters.

It sure sounds like a reaction to copper which would kill your inverts (but plants?!?!). Make sure that's not in the ingredients. Hopefully someone that knows more about this will come along soon for you. Sorry for the mess and loss :(

I agree with essjay on the stocking and the shrimp. I'd stick with either one or the other of your fish: the cardinals or the beta and then add (or keep) shrimp. The beta might seem fine now but it most likely will not stay that way. And "seeming" fine and actually being fine are very different...

Hello there! You did a nice job cleaning up the tank. First thing to do is test the water (if you don't have kits, purchase them but in meanwhile take a sample of your water to a local fish store for them to test). You need to know what your parameters are and that they are ok for the fish...
