Is this a healthy environment for a snail?

but you have no real plants in there? and is that round thing metal?! This would be perfect for a little snail if it were real plants and wood.

    First tank...ever!!

Yay for this crew!!!! Shrimp are so much fun to have and observe! As are snails! Your water will keep their shells in perfect condition! And as mentioned by ch4rlie, they are actually a Fabulous clean up crew!!! Forever busy!

    Micro planted tank

Hum... If the other tank has more water and maybe more plants then possibly the inhabitants weren't as bothered? Shrimp are pretty delicate little creatures. Looks great though! That fishy sure is handsome!

super strange shrimp behavior on video

I know, but do they try to eat it while it's still on a living shrimp!?!? That's what was odd about the video. The second part of the video I was just showing that he was ok after a few days and happily eating a moult. It truly seemed like the blue one was trying to moult and the red one was...

super strange shrimp behavior on video

that cracked me up :) I have struggled wondering if that one red was a female...Oh boy, that's not so great since I have black red and blue...I'll surely get wilds in there. Oh well, they're all cute. I've had them all for many months now and no eggs or babies. But I have to agree ...I swear...

Is my Betta dying or sick?

that shouldn't be the issue because beta are not community fish and don't belong in a tank of such....although if the other tank had better water quality and real plants and lots of room and hiding places then maybe he is a little bummed as this doesn't have much room and appears to have plastic...

super strange shrimp behavior on video

I too have a jet black one! (three red, one blue, one black and one amano) wait...what?!?! I thought they were both male?!? I thought so too!?! haha....strange little critters. they really are soo very quirky! I just adore them and their antics.

super strange shrimp behavior on video

Hey all :) I've been MIA for a tiny bit but all has been so great with my tank (knock wood) that I've kinda put attentions elsewhere. Anyway...super weird behavior caught on video of two dwarf shrimp (neocardinia) one red and one blue (both male...only have males in my tank 5 and one amano)...

    Feeding Otos.

heck yes! I've had mine for over two years and he's grown so much! He's gorgeous and very active. I adore him! And as mentioned, they come in really amazing colors and patterns!

    Feeding Otos.

Hello :) I'd definitely return the ottos and as Byron said, if you and or the kids are attached to the guppies...it can work with very regular maintenance (they are messy eaters and big poopers, quite a bioload for a small fish). But as pointed out your water may be a little too soft for their...

Cherry Shrimp Breeding But No Young Survive.

That's a head scratcher for sure. Are you only keeping neocardinia? Because if you have any ghost shrimp in there they will most certainly eat anything small enough that they can catch. I'm sure an Amano might also. And if any of your snails are Assassins they too will eat anything they can...

Chili Rasboras for Fluval Edge 46l?

Sounds like a plan. If you do truly have very hard water and you plan to keep the neons you should look into mixing ro or distilled with your tap to bring it down to suitable parameters for the neons.

Chili Rasboras for Fluval Edge 46l?

Hello there! I too have a fluval edge and yes, it's not fun to get in and out of. Keeping the water changes up and quality will be your best bet on not having to get into it too often. I do however have a nano mag, made by two little fishes that helps to get the inside glass clean without...

    Disappearing shrimp?

i'm pretty sure any fish will eat the shrimp if the shrimp is small enough. I've witnessed my endlers chasing down juveniles before. But as mentioned, they can crawl out...especially amanos. and if they're all crawling out...I'd check your water parameters! Shrimp are super sensitive and will...

    Help Identify Betta

Holy Cow he's so gorgeous and looks like he's really going to be spectacular! I can't wait to see what he becomes! When you get some plants maybe add some floating plants to block some of that light :)

what a great shot! pretty little critters!
  22. thrujenseyes

I have a 1.5 gallon tank and I wondered what fish I could have in it.

shrimp are very delicate and susceptible to even the smallest inconsistencies in the water parameters and trying to keep a tank that tiny cycled and consistent is very very difficult. (oh and yes I'd get a tiny heater and filter...not sure which for something so small....just google that...

I have a 1.5 gallon tank and I wondered what fish I could have in it.

shrimp only. that's if you can keep it cycled...anything smaller than 5 gallons is pretty difficult to keep cycled and maintain consistent parameters.

    Horrifying Tank Deaths: Please Help!

It sure sounds like a reaction to copper which would kill your inverts (but plants?!?!). Make sure that's not in the ingredients. Hopefully someone that knows more about this will come along soon for you. Sorry for the mess and loss :(

    Overstocking?

"googley eyed" isn't the correct species name? ha :) thanks
  27. thrujenseyes

    Overstocking?

:-( Oh that's terrible. I have a little tiny 6 gallon fluval edge so I often look around instagram to see what others keep in theirs and more often than not I'm horrified! One person had three of those fancy black googly eyed goldfish (sorry, not sure correct name). And more recently saw...
  28. thrujenseyes

    Which shrimp?!

I agree with essjay on the stocking and the shrimp. I'd stick with either one or the other of your fish: the cardinals or the beta and then add (or keep) shrimp. The beta might seem fine now but it most likely will not stay that way. And "seeming" fine and actually being fine are very different...

    Fish questions

Hello there! You did a nice job cleaning up the tank. First thing to do is test the water (if you don't have kits, purchase them but in meanwhile take a sample of your water to a local fish store for them to test). You need to know what your parameters are and that they are ok for the fish...

    Possible Guppy hybrids?

that's a good question and I can't wait to hear someone answer it but my guess about fish from one pond getting into another is a good place to start. I'd say yes, as I'm sure prey of some sort (birds, cats...etc) can get ahold of a fish or two and accidentally drop into the next pond over or...

    Roma renovation project!

Holy Cow!!!! That's so freakin amazing! Is there a post about how you did that? I see that you cut the (i just realized I have no idea how to spell that word) away but what did you do for that surface? I must know! I absolutely love it and the tank looks beautiful...as do the fish!
