I love that, but it's so messy to clean. I get dead leaves everywhere!

Please post pictures of your floating plants

I'd love to see 1) an arial view and 2) a photo directly from the front for ideas. This would be a great thread for future reference. Thanks so much!

Where do you buy your apistogrammas?

I have tried 3 local, privately owned fish stores to no avail, but I've been wanting to take some day trips to two nearby cities (both two hours away), so I think I'll call some of them. I did call one popular store in Nashville, but the person I spoke to said that they can't get apistos from...

Where do you buy your apistogrammas?

Do you have any idea why they are less popular now? It's a shame, because it seems like such an interesting fish.

Where do you buy your apistogrammas?

We have the big box pet stores, and three "local" fish stores, and no one carries them. Are they difficult to breed? Just not popular? I haven't seen even one in the local stores here!

    50 Gallon fish tank stand

Check Craigslist or used furniture stores for old dressers, china cabinets or buffet pieces. Many people are selling their cabinets because they don't have separate, formal dining rooms anymore, and you can get a solid, quality piece for cheap. (For guys who don't realize it, tall china...

Neon tetra and betta got into fight, tetra is missing an eye!

I would get the betta out immediately. You can buy a 5 gallon tank very inexpensively, and if you can't afford the whole setup you can add filtration, lights, etc. over time. It's an easy water change, so you really aren't adding much extra work.

    Grandmother Tank Stocking

LOL A better question would be does she need reading glasses? If she does, then she won't see the fish very well upclose, and small fish should be admired from close up, imo. :)

    Grandmother Tank Stocking

How good is your grandmother's eyesight? Might be something to consider when stocking.

Me, too! I remember walking into my mother-in-law's kitchen, smelling coffee, and walking right back out. I didn't even know I was pregnant, yet! (And I loved coffee.)

What is your favorite floating plant and why? Poll.

Looks nice! I have several anubias on a large piece of mopani wood, but it's such a heavy and dark piece. I'm thinking of moving it over to manzanita wood, but I hope I'm not making a mistake.

What is your favorite floating plant and why? Poll.

Thanks so much for the pictures. I'm definitely getting some red root floaters! What are the dark green leaves in the first picture? It looks like some type of anubias.

What is your favorite floating plant and why? Poll.

Yes, I've seen numerous pictures of them, but only from the top. I would like to see what the roots look like.

What is your favorite floating plant and why? Poll.

Don't forget to vote. :) And thanks for the photos. And I added water spangles to the list. Since it's the one floating plant I do have, I can't believe that I forgot to list it! :) In fact, I'm thinking of switching to water lettuce.

Pros and cons of various floating plants? Do you think some plants are messier than others? Which ones grow faster?

Anumbias on Manzanita Wood? Help, Please & Share Photos if You Have Any

Anumbias on Manzanita Wood? Help, Please & Share Photos if You Have Any

I have anubias growing successfully on mopani wood, which is rough enough for the roots to cling to, I guess. Well, I really don't like the look of the dark mopani in my tank, and I've spent a fortune on pieces I don't like. How would anubia do on manzanita wood? The pieces I have are rather...

Honey gourami seems to have lost color - very pale

Doing well. They all started off pale, and four of them have started to show a lot more color. Three are still quite a bit paler, but I really think they might be females. They all seem healthy. If I do have 4 m/3 f, I'm going to have to do something about that down the road, probably. Right...

What fish should I choose? Poll

If your water parameters allow, I would want a tank of cherry shrimp or whatever other color floats your boat. You can sell the babies. :)

Forgot to plug the heater back in!

That happened to me during the winter with my 30g, and my house is cold! The fish were somewhat sluggish comparatively, but fine otherwise.

**Question of the week** | How important are sand sifting livestock to your tank?

I actually love to watch the corys, so they're important in the sense that I get a lot of enjoyment from them. Important because they sift through the sand and contribute to hygiene? ha I think my tank would be a lot cleaner if they didn't uproot my plants and let them establish so the...

    New Set up (MTS)

In addition to the 30G long, I've added these three aquariums over the last few weeks. The two 5 gallons each hold a betta (Gilbert and Mr. Darcey :) ), and the center 10 G tank is cycling for shrimp and a few guppies. The beta tanks are running on Aquarium Co-op sponge filters. I wanted...

Help Me Stock! 30g Planted w/ Cardinals

I have a 30 gallon long (36") With a bit of overfiltration  , Aqadvisor has me just at my limit (with full grown fish). The tank is definitely not overstocked, and I think the fish are much less stressed with several of their own kind. About the german blue rams - I bought 5 young rams...

Do your guppies eat your live shrimp?

Do your guppies eat your live shrimp?

I'm thinking of populating an empty ten gallon tank with a few guppies and cherry shrimp, but I read comflicting stories about whether or not guppies will eat the shrimp. What is your experience? Thanks.

Help Me Stock! 30g Planted w/ Cardinals

I don't have cardinal tetras, but I do have ember tetras with honey gouramis and a pair of german blue rams. I also have corys, but they're on a sand substrate. The honey gouramis are much more interesting in a shoal. I have seven.
