Will treated fin rot fall away and regrow or heal where it is damaged?

The nitrates were very low when I tested as it was shortly after a water change and they don’t get much chance to build with water changes every other day. I’m using the fish lab liquid test kit which is usually very accurate But is easier to read when levels are high, the 0.1 ammonia being the...

Will treated fin rot fall away and regrow or heal where it is damaged?

I I give him dips in a bucket. I can’t use the other bucket I have as it is required for cleaning my other tanks. I am reluctant to move him into the bucket for any length of time because my children are very young and curious and a bucket of water with a fish in next to a power supply is not...

Will treated fin rot fall away and regrow or heal where it is damaged?

I have been giving my betta salt water dips to try and help with his fin fungus but it seems to be getting worse not better. Will the diseased part of the fin fall away and regrow or will it heal? I am unable to set up a quarantine tank in a safe place and his tank is too heavily planted to...

Betta fungal infection isn’t responding to treatment

I initially did a salt treatment in a quarantine bucket, but didn’t feel good leaving him in a bucket that I couldn’t hide from inquisitive toddlers, so I moved him back into the tank and started an anti fungal treatment. I have been adding treatment every day and changing water every other day...

Young guppy swimming frantically upside down in circles

Thanks for this information. I have not heard of this before. I can’t get an all-in-1 treatment at short notice so I hope none of the others are affected.

Young guppy swimming frantically upside down in circles

I am assuming it is probably best to euthanise this fish but so far it is so fast and so erratic I can’t catch it. It has been losing weight for a few weeks. Is this likely a contagious issue? Thanks

    Sand

The water runs clear when the wet sand is agitated. It can take 1 wash if it’s a good batch or 50 washes if you are unlucky. Sometimes if a tank is very cloudy despite washing the sand I will run an extra filter on full for a few days before planting it.

    Best substrate for plants?

I have got two tanks side by side with similar plants and light. The tank with dark sand and root tabs looks good and is easier to clean, the plants take root easily. The tank with fluval stratum plant substrate looks good, is a nightmare to clean and It is so light the plants get uprooted all...

If my tiger lotus bulb floats is it dead?

I broke the bulb off my tiger lotus in the hope of propagating another in a planted jar. It’s just floating around. Is there a chance it will germinate or should I just get a fresh bulb?

Green spot algae... how do I treat this stubborn stuff?

Having successfully defeated Cyanobacteria, hair algae and staghorn through persistent water changes and adjustments to fertilisers I have a new nemesis.... A pale green/white crust that blooms across the glass and is extremely resistant to scrubbing. At first I thought it might be scale, but as...

Thanks. I’ll do my best with his habitat and hope he lives a good while with his lumps and bumps.

My betta has a small bulge on his side

Yes, it does look like it in the profile pic. I’m inquiring about it now because the scales no longer sit quite flat in that area. Ideally it’s just what his tail is supposed to look like, but the change in texture is what is worrying me a little. He isn’t a particular old fish.

My betta has a small bulge on his side

Hello. My betta has a small bulge on his side that disrupts his scales a bit. It isn’t big, so it is hard to take clear pictures of it. It has been almost unnoticeable for a few months, but it has recently become easier to see. He eats and swims well at the moment. Does anyone know what it might be?

Can I use rock salt instead of aquarium salt?

Cool, aquarium salt costs 3-4 times the price. Far too much just to have a picture of a fish on the packet.

I would like to see pictures of your taxidermied fish, I don’t mind if you are to busy to do it though.

Can I use rock salt instead of aquarium salt?

It appears that aquarium salt is just NaCl without iodine and anti caking agents. I already have loads of coarse rock salt that has no additives in. Is there any good reason why I need aquarium salt instead?

My betta has pinhole fin rot, other than water changes how can I treat it?

Thanks I will try this. Would a salt dip or bath work? His tank is heavily planted with varieties that don’t tolerate salt well.

My betta has pinhole fin rot, other than water changes how can I treat it?

It appears to be fungal, as one of the two tiny holes seems to have white fuzz on it. I have ESHa exit which contains methylene blue, although it is an ich treatment, will that help?

    MTS invasion. Problem?

Apparently they do sometimes. They never go near mine despite eradicating every other snail completely. I can’t really tell long term, the nerites and assassins have lived together for nearly a year now.
  28. Irksome

    MTS invasion. Problem?

Ye Yes! I had three mts that I added to my tank, they lasted less then 20 minuits as a surprisingly coordinated attack happened. Assassins have some amazing hunting skills.

    Nerite Snail question.

It shouldn’t be a problem with a co2 gas kit, it’s the chemicals in liquid carbon supplements that damage livestock and snails rather than the co2. Sometimes people add it to control algae or instead of using gas.

    Nerite Snail question.

It is possibly the seacheam excel, the liquid carbon I used was basically the same thing and the only obvious problem was the snails. I thought they had some sort of snail dementia. The have been fine since I stopped adding it, they haven’t fallen over once. I guess they are just particularly...

    Nerite Snail question.

My nerites went through a phase of lying belly up and not moving. Tuned out the liquid carbon I was adding was making them ill. I stopped using it and they never did it again.

Has anyone here had a fish survive dropsy?

Fair enough and well done. I noticed the fish was ill a few weeks ago when treatment may have worked. Furan2 is available on the U.K., kanaplex is not. It is quite expensive keeping fish here, Furan2 is £20 a packet and a new fancy Betta will cost upwards of £30.

Has anyone here had a fish survive dropsy?

Thankyou, thoughI think I would start with a better specimen. A pine coned, bloated betta with fin rot would look awful. I prefer cute fluffy taxidermy and the weird stuff that combines species.

The taxidermy animal is probably already dead... i wonder if you can taxidermy a fish
