It appears that aquarium salt is just NaCl without iodine and anti caking agents. I already have loads of coarse rock salt that has no additives in. Is there any good reason why I need aquarium salt instead?

The only thing I've seen mentioned is to make sure you adjust the dose to account for the larger rocks. One teaspoon of aquarium salt measures a different amount when dissolved than a teaspoon of larger pieces of rock salt, ya know? Just something to be aware of when measuring out your doses.
